Economic Development department moves office

The Economic Development office has moved to 62 Cathedral Street, Unit BB03 to a bigger and better office space with a business look and feel.  The new premises will not only have new offices for staff but comes with a one-stop-shop to provide small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and entrepreneurs with guidance and to connect them to business development services.

There is  space available for training and seminars to assist local businesses in George, that want to partner with the department. As part of the workshops, SMMEs (Small, Medium & Micro Enterprise Businesses) and entrepreneurs will be guided on how to overcome the municipality`s red tape, and connect them with industry experts who can mentor them. They will also be provided with training on how to develop their companies.

We ask the community to take note that the Economic Development department no longer has offices in the George Tourism building in York Street. The new offices have been open since 5 August 2019 in 62 Cathedral Street.

Mr Pedro Oliphant, Manager: Economic Development at George Municipality, said “ We promote entrepreneurship and assist with putting businesses in contact with support organisations, including investors and or entrepreneurship programmes. Our office provides practical advice on starting a business and the requirements and legalities involved. We act as a one-stop-shop to guide and create linkages with the extensive network of enterprise development support available across George and the region.

Oliphant said the George Municipality does not provide start-up funding  for businesses but they do provide guidance as part of their offering.

Get in touch with the Economic Development team via email Kenneth Langeveldt at klangeveldt@george.gov.za or on 044 801 9099.
