Farewell to George Municipality interns

 

George Municipality held a farewell function for the interns that finished their internship programme at the organisation to express sincere thanks and appreciation to not only the interns but also the Consultants, Mentors, Management and staff involved. Two retired professional engineers were mentors to the interns. The graduates are three Civil Engineers, one Chemical Engineer, one Mechanical Engineer, five Electrical Engineers and one Artisan Plumber. The Infrastructure Skills Internship programme (ISDG) was introduced during the 2011/12 financial year by National Treasury.

Five of the interns have submitted their respective applications to the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) for professional registration and one have been successfully registered as a Professional Technologist.

Aldm Melvin Naik, Executive Mayor of George thanked everyone involved in the project as well as the consulting engineers where some of the interns were placed. He wished the interns well on their journey ahead. He said the Municipality have granted you the experience of the workplace but it is not only important for you to learn from others but also to network and learn about yourself.

In front are Thandiswa Bambata (Electro Technical Services intern), Cathy Koelman (intern at Civil Engineering and Royal Haskoning DHV now permanent at Royal Haskoning), Rual Jacobs (intern at Electro Technical), Adam-John Willems (intern), Bongolwethu Mbakaza (intern Electro Technical) and Nellis Terblance (intern at Civil Engineering working at Shamah Consultants). At the back are  Ivan Jansen Van Rensburg (intern), Kevin Grünewald, Director of Electro Technical Services, Aldm Melvin Naik, Executive Mayor of George, Themba Ndima (intern at Civil Engineering working at Royal Haskoning DHV), Paul van Niekerk (Mentor: Electro Technical Services), Marlene Matthews from Electro Technical Services, Vianda van Aswegen (Civil Engineering intern, currently working at George Municipality), Harold Basson, Director of Civil Engineering Services and Marius Swart (Civil Engineering). Absent: Johan Gouws (Mentor: Civil Engineering Services)
