Female Councillors on Multi-Party Women's Group
Female Councillors from the George City Council held their inception meeting last week as a Multi Party Women’s Group under the umbrella of the Salga Women’s Commission.
According to Cllr Elizabeth Stroebel, George Municipality Councillor and District Commissioner for the Salga Women’s Commission, said the Multi Party Women’s Group is in line with a national directive.
She said some of the objectives are to engage Council and its structures on empowerment issues affecting women in administration, politics and the community. The women’s group also has to ensure gender mainstreaming and equity within municipal processes, and to affirm and strengthen partnerships and networks that support women in Local Government, other spheres of government and civil society.
Cllr Faith Mdaka was chosen as chairperson of the group, although the chairpersonship will be rotated as the group is an informal group. The group are front Cllrs Helen Loff.
