George Municipality provides emergency services including fire, rescue and disaster management to George and surrounding areas.

George Fire Department is at all times the first responder to all fires in the George municipal area. On arrival the owner of the burning property is confirmed and informed of such if they are not yet on the scene, and the fire handed over to the relevant responsible entity if applicable.

 

According to the Municipal Structures Act, the George Municipality is responsible for all structural fires, motor vehicle accident rescue and open field fires inside the urban edge while Eden District Municipality is responsible for all open field and bush fires outside the urban edge, mountain fires and incidents of hazardous materials spills.
