Friendly Mayoral “roadblock” to welcome tourists
Tourists from all over the country and even a couple from London had a warm welcome from the Executive Mayor of George and Councillors.
All the motorists that were stopped in the friendly roadblock received a holiday pack with information on things to do in George, tips on long distance travelling, a festive message from the Mayor, and a bottle of water, sweets and the emergency numbers. Danny Cat accompanied the Mayor and handed out lollipops to the children. The visitors were officially welcomed by Aldm Melvin Naik, the Executive Mayor of George, Cllr Gerrit Pretorius, Executive Deputy Mayor, Cllr David Willemse, Cllr Marlene Viljoen, Cllr Cecil Noble, Cllr Gert Niehaus, Cllr Johan Stander, Cllr Edmund Bussack and Cllr Jean Säfers, Walter Hendricks, Director of Community Services, Patrick Jordaan, Senior Superintendent of Traffic Services, members of traffic and the fire department as well as Graham de Swart, Acting Manager of Tourism.
Mayor Naik wished all the tourists a safe and enjoyable holiday in George. He also wished the traffic and fire services well especially over the very busy festive season. He said the work they do is very important and thanked them for their hard work.
