Friendly Mayoral “roadblock” to welcome tourists

he Executive Mayor of George, Ald Melvin Naik and councillors gave tourists from abroad, across South Africa a hearty welcome to sunny George on Friday during a friendly Mayoral “roadblock.”

Tourists from all over the country and even a couples from Germany, Spain and the Netherlands had a warm welcome from the Executive Mayor of George and Councillors on Friday in the sweltering heat.

All the motorists that were stopped in the friendly roadblock received a holiday pack with bottled water, peanuts, lollipops, pamphlet on saving water, a pamphlet with traffic safety tips and the latest George Municipal Newspaper which contains the Mayor’s festive message and more tips on how to save water. The visitors were officially welcomed by Aldm Melvin Naik, the Executive Mayor of George, Cllr Gerrit Pretorius, Executive Deputy Mayor, Cllr David Willemse, Cllr Marlene Barnardt, Cllr Cecil Noble (Portfolio Councillor for Community Safety), Cllr Gert Niehaus, Cllr Edmund Bussack, Cllr Stag Cronje, Cllr Peter Louw and Cllr Jean Säfers, Mr Steven Erasmus, the newly appointed Director of Protection Services, the Traffic Chief, Mr Donovan Saptoe, members of traffic, law enforcement and the fire department.

Mayor Naik welcomed all the tourists and wished them a safe and enjoyable holiday while in George. He also wished the traffic, law enforcement and fire services a safe time especially over the very busy festive season. He said they are the face of the Municipality and thanked them for their hard work.
