GEORGE MUNICIPALITY ENCOURAGES ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION OF BUILDING PLANS

GEORGE MUNICIPALITY ENCOURAGES ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION OF BUILDING PLANS

In his address to the nation on 23 April 2020, honourable President Ramaphosa affirmed that the National State of Disaster instituted as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic continues and that extra ordinary measures will remain in place to delay the spread of the virus. Municipalities are directed to monitor and control social distancing, restriction of movement and stringent basic hygiene practices in communities and in the workplace in order to mitigate the risk of transmission.

It is therefore prudent that the George Municipality adhere to the Regulations with the appropriate response, conducive to creating awareness and to restrict the movement of people, thereby reducing the risk of contact with the virus.

The Building Control Office has continued its operations throughout the lock down period from remote locations and will continue its functions on this basis for as long as is required.  Our online building plan submission portal was launched on 21 February 2019 and enables electronic document handling.  The online submission of applications, minimizes person-to person contact and potential resultant transmission through document and stationary handling. The health and safety of our staff and clients is of utmost importance, hence the use of this portal is preferred and encouraged.

The municipality recognizes the contribution the construction industry makes to our local economy and in providing employment.  The Building Control offices are committed to continued improvement of it’s systems and processes, to promote ease of doing business and to keep the industry active and prepared to mobilise its resources, once we can all return to business.

Architects and Professional Draughtsman are therefore reminded of our existing electronic portal and are encouraged to make use of this tool as opposed to manual submission.  Your continued use of the portal post COVID-19, will aid in reducing our carbon footprint and will also relieve much of our administration currently invested in handling hard copies of documents.

Visit : https://westerncapecollab.collaboratoronline.com/SignIn.aspx to submit your building plan application.
Detailed instructions for the use of the portal can be downloaded from the municipal website at the following: Link : http://www.george.gov.za/resource-category/general-documentsnotices?page=1
