Update – Water outage for Wilderness/Wilderness Heights - Tuesday, 9 October at 10:30
With regard to the current water situation in Wilderness Heights and Wilderness - the Civil Engineering Directorate has had feedback from the safety specialist on the status of the Kaaiman's Railway Bridge and once the necessary safety measures are put in place, repair work can start tomorrow, Thursday, 10 October. Damage to the watermain occurred on Sunday, 6 October. At this point Wilderness consumers will be experiencing low water pressure and Wilderness Heights no water.
Water trucks are still being used to attempt to maintain the levels of the reservoir and consumers are urged to keep water consumption to a minimum to allow the trucks to maintain the level thus allowing the entire area access to water albeit at low pressure. The Civil Engineering Directorate will hire in additional water trucks and will also make use of the new fire services truck (35 000 litres) to continue filling up the reservoir.
Wilderness Heights Water Supply: Three water trucks remain stationed as from 06h00 today (9 October) at the Wilderness Heights shop, on the corner of Silver and Whites Roads and at Remskoen Road at the Informal Settlement for consumers to collect water with their own containers. Please note these water trucks do need to refill at times so if they are not seen, they will return.
George Municipality apologizes for the inconvenience and assures the public that the repair efforts are being expedited as quickly as is possible given the difficult location of the failure and all safety concerns having to be addressed.
Updates on the situation will be given to the public via the media and social media channels of George Municipality .
