TRANSFER STATION OPEN FOR BLACK BAGS

TRANSFER STATION OPEN FOR BLACK BAGS – ACCESS CONTROLLED IN TERMS OF COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS

The George Municipality Transfer Station on the R102 (airport road) is open for the dropping off of black bags while refuse collection is halted due to positive Covid-19 cases in this department.

All Covid-19 measures are in place at the Transfer Station, and members of the public will be required to furnish their personal details (please take your own pen with you), and be sanitized prior to entry.  No Entry will be allowed should a member of the
public refuse to follow the Covid-19 precautions in place. Also please note that NO access is allowed to the Landfill Site for garden refuse.  Please make use of the  green garden refuse bags which are collected at your residential address.

As per announcement on 1 June 2020, refuse will not be collected for 14 days, following confirmation of staff in this section testing positive for the virus. The municipality is taking extreme precautions to limit the spread and safeguarding its staff and clients, and has closed all relevant offices and will be sanitising such facilities.

Members of the public must please not put out their black bags this week. The Transfer Station will temporarily receive general waste in black bags while collection in neighbourhoods are not taking place.

Please note blue and green bag collection for recyclables and garden refuse continues as usual. Please DO NOT place general waste in blue and green bags. Only blue bags containing recyclables and green bags containing garden waste will be collected.

The Transfer Station is open Monday to Friday 07h30-17h00 and Saturday 08h00-14h00 (closed on Sundays). The entrance to the transfer station is on the R102 (airport road) - from York Street turn towards the airport and look out for the signage on the left.

The George Municipality remains committed to service delivery in the face of ongoing Covid-19 challenges and thanks the public for their understanding and support during this time.

Blue and green bag inquiries to 044 878 0688.
