Tourism Road Signage Applications

Tourism Road Signage Applications
George Municipality has developed Guidelines for the Submission of Outdoor Advertising Applications to assist applicants with the submission and evaluation process for outdoor advertising applications.
Applications for Municipal Roads
Applicants wishing to install tourism signage on municipal roads must:
• Read the Guidelines for the Submission of Outdoor Advertising Applications.
• Complete the Outdoor Advertising Application Form (available below the guidelines).
• Submit all the required supporting documentation.
Please omit the sections highlighted in red when completing the application form.
Applications for Proclaimed and Provincial Roads
For tourism signage on proclaimed and/or provincial roads (such as York Street, Knysna Road and SANRAL routes), applicants must submit:
• The completed George Municipality Outdoor Advertising Application Form;
• All required supporting documentation; and
• The Regional Tourism Liaison Committee (RTLC) Application Form.
These applications must also be considered and approved by the relevant road authority, as additional restrictions apply to proclaimed and provincial roads.
Signage Requirements
Please note that each establishment may erect a maximum of three tourism signboards within the road reserve. Applicants are expected to demonstrate that sufficient consideration has been given to the need for additional wayfinding signage, based on customer requirements and the location of the establishment.
The minimum requirements for guest accommodation signage, including the appropriate tourism symbols, are contained in the Revised Symbols and Warrants for Tourism Signing – Volume 2, Chapter 4 (page 27).
Submission of Applications
Completed application forms, together with all required supporting documentation, must be submitted to the Infrastructure Planning Section of the Civil Engineering Services Department for review and approval.
