Call To Apply For An Informal Trading Permit

NOTICE TO ALL ENTREPRENEURS / INFORMAL TRADERS IN THE CITY OF GEORGE
TO APPLY FOR AN INFORMAL TRADING STAND FOR ONE YEAR.

The George Municipality recognizes informal trading as vital to socio-economic growth by acknowledging its role in creating local business, income, and job opportunities within communities. Informal Trading provides a livelihood for many who have dependents to support and enhances the chain of distribution for goods and services.

To this effect, the George Municipality hereby invites residents of George to apply for an informal trading opportunity through a fair, equal, and transparent process.

Trading stands are available at the following allocated areas:

RESIDENTIAL
• Blanco (3)
• Conville (1)

CBD
• Hibernia Street (5)
• York Street (12)
• Van der Stel Square (15)

The following criteria will apply:
• Certified copy of ID
• Proof of residence
• Certificate of Acceptability (COA) for selling any foodstuffs or beverages
• One permit will be issued per household/family
• The trader must personally trade on the allocated site; and
• No food preparation will be allowed at stalls.

Application forms can be obtained from the George Municipal Website: https://www.george.gov.za/george-document/informal-trading-permit-application-form-2025-2026/ and the Economic
Development Office at 12 Industrial Street, George Industria (Workers Collection Point).

Completed applications must be placed in the Application Box at 12 Industrial Street, George Industria, no later than 16h00 on Friday, 10th October 2025. Late applications will not be considered.
