Unplanned water outage: Water Supply Disruption – Pacaltsdorp

Please be advised that a water pressure line between the Pacaltsdorp pump station and the water tower was damaged during construction of the new Pacaltsdorp West Reservoir. As a result, the water tower is currently empty, and the entire Pacaltsdorp area will experience water supply disruptions from early morning.

A water tanker from the Fire Department is stationed on Beach Road near Pick n Pay from 05:30.

Repair efforts are underway. The contractor is excavating the affected pipeline and assessing damage. The estimated time of restoration is currently unknown. We are exploring options to bypass the system.

We will provide updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

The free 10-point vehicle safety inspection is a Western Cape Government initiative aimed at ensuring safer roads during the busy travel period. This initiative aims to encourage drivers, particularly those planning long journeys, to assess the roadworthiness of their vehicles before heading off.

Please bring your vehicle to the VTS situated at Hibernia Street, George, on the dates listed above, and please note that the first-come, first-served rule will apply.

THE 10-POINT INSPECTION INCLUDES:

• Identification of the vehicle
• Lights
• Equipment and Body structure
• Braking Systems
• Wheels and tyres
• Suspension and undercarriage
• Steering
• Oil leaks
• Exhaust System
• Transmission

The full inspection will take approximately 10 minutes, and you will be free to go with a clean bill of health or know that something needs to be repaired before you leave for that long drive.

Public Notice: Addressing sewer odours in Pacaltsdorp, Rosedale, and Thembalethu

We are aware of the occasional sewer odour affecting the Pacaltsdorp, Rosedale, and Thembalethu areas in recent months. After investigating, we found that the issue is primarily due to challenges with the oxygen supply demand system at the Outeniqua Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) and the additional residual (sludge) being received from the Water Treatment Works (WTW) situated in Denneoord.

What Is Causing the Odour?
• The WTW is currently discharging residual (sludge) into the wastewater system. This is a temporary measure until the WTW upgrade is complete, which will include a proper residual (sludge) dewatering handling facility.
• The Outeniqua WWTW is struggling to properly treat this waste due to two broken oxygen supply pieces of equipment , which help break down organic matter and reduce odours.
• Repairing this oxygen supply equipment is complex, and no contractors in South Africa are able to assist. We are now working on having them repaired abroad. In the meantime, a new oxygen supply demand system has been ordered as a temporary solution.

What Are We Doing About It?
• We have adjusted the treatment process to divert most of the flow to the recently built treatment module which operate more effectively.
• This change has already reduced the odour, and the situation will continue to improve as the system stabilises.
• The new oxygen supply equipment is expected to be in place by May 2025, ensuring better long-term odour control.

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue.

Intussen is ’n nuwe suurstofvoorsieningstelsel bestel as ’n tydelike oplossing.
