PUBLIC NOTICE: Please Help Prevent Signage Theft & Vandalism

The George Municipality is deeply concerned about the ongoing removal, theft, and vandalism of road signage and delineators in areas where roadworks occur, particularly on weekends.

Tampering with or stealing road signage is a criminal offence and poses a serious safety risk to motorists, pedestrians, and workers. Missing or displaced signage can lead to accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. Replacing these essential safety measures to comply with the approved Traffic Management Plan incurs significant costs.

To address this issue, contractors conduct daily checks and over weekends to reinstate stolen or damaged signage. However, we need the public’s support to end this criminal activity.

We urge residents to report any incidents of theft or vandalism immediately to SAPS and George Municipality Law Enforcement at 044 801 6350 (or 044 801 6300 after hours). If it is safe to do so, capturing photos of the offenders in action can greatly assist in enforcement efforts.

Your cooperation is essential in safeguarding our infrastructure and ensuring road safety for everyone. Thank you for your support.
