MARKET STREET -INTERSECTION UPGRADES
Resurfacing of the Market/Merriman Street intersection will impact road users during the period from 13 to 14 February 2023
PROJECT:
Market – Merriman streets Intersection
DESCRIPTION:
Resurfacing of the Market/ Merriman streets Intersection as indicated in the figure.
CONSTRUCTION PERIOD: 13 February 2023 (Starting 18:00) – 14 February 2023 (Completed 06:00)
SERVICES DISRUPTION
Municipal services may be disrupted during this period due to construction activities. Whenever possible, advance notification of temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.
TRAFFIC IMPACT:
The Market/Merriman streets intersection will be closed to traffic due to resurfacing of the intersection. Work will be done after hours to minimise the impact on motorists. The intersection will be closed from 18:00 on 13 February 2023 and be opened for traffic again by 06:00 on 14 February 2023. Detour signage will be erected to inform road users.
Extra care is to be taken by road users and pedestrians throughout the duration of the construction period. Adherence to temporary road signage and markings will be required.

The George Municipality realises the impact of road works, apologises for the inconvenience, and appeals to road users to be patient and exercise caution during the upgrade.
Please look out for and adhere to temporary road signage and be aware of roadwork personnel.

ONLY USE ESSENTIAL APPLIANCES WHEN POWER IS RESTORED
Consumers are reminded to use electricity sparingly especially when power returns after load shedding. This will reduce the risk of overload tripping on the network. Consumers are requested to not switch on appliances such as stoves and kettles for at least 30 minutes after load shedding.
Stop and go is still in place at the Outeniqua Pass, while the load is being transferred to another truck.
A truck overturned. One lane direction from Oudtshoorn was closed.
Motorists are advised to drive cautiously.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT OUTENIQUA PASS
Motor vehicle accident in the Outeniqua Pass as a truck overturned. One lane direction from Oudtshoorn is closed. A Stop and go in place, motorists are advised to drive cautiously.

Public Notice: VTS will close for extended period

The Vehicle Testing Station (VTS) located in Hibernia Street (next to the train station) will be closed for equipment upgrading and replacement work from the 15th of February until the 17th of March 2023. The public is urged to use private vehicle testing stations.
The Vehicle Testing station is open weekdays from 08h30 – 15h30 and can be contacted on 044 801 9312.
Our Fire and Rescue Services are responding to a Motor vehicle accident Airport intersection. Two vehicles were involved in the accident and two patients with moderate injuries. No road closures at this stage. Motorists are advised to approach this intersection with caution.
