Day of Prayer for rain in George
Media Release: Day of Prayer for rain
Issued by George Municipality, 8 December 2022 for immediate release
George Mayor Leon van Wyk has appealed to the general church community of George to please call out a day of prayer for rain. Ald van Wyk said he felt compelled to make this plea to the churches because we all need to come together to pray for those showers of blessings that we so desperately need. Last year this time, the Garden Route dam was 100% full, now only a year later and due to poor rainfall, our dam is at 49%.
Mayor van Wyk said: “We are heading into an important season where we will visit our family and loved ones and this means we will see an influx of people into our town.”He said as we plead and pray for rain, he is reminded of an apt bible verse: then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain and the earth bore its fruit – James 5:18
Pastor Ockie Taylor came back with positive response and said that he will liaise with other churches and organise a Day of Prayer at the Garden Route Dam on the 16th of December.

REMINDER – URGENT REQUEST TO THE PUBLIC – PLEASE USE WATER SPARINGLY
REMINDER – URGENT REQUEST TO THE PUBLIC – PLEASE USE WATER SPARINGLY
Issued 8 December @ 07H00, George Municipality
Extended load shedding implemented by ESKOM, complications at the Water Treatment Works, Raw Water pumping constraints and the main water pipeline burst this week, has led to the main drinking (potable) water reservoirs dropping to critically low levels.
We ask the public to PLEASE reduce their water usage to the absolute minimum so as to allow the water purification process to catch up to the demand level. This affects ALL AREAS in George and residents will have noted VERY low water pressure.
We apologize for the situation and request your assistance in ensuring that water usage is kept to a minimum.
PLEASE USE WATER SPARINGLY and only for absolutely essential needs.
