UPDATE: POWER SUPPLY RESTORED IN WILDERNESS AND BEING SUPPLIED THROUGH ESKOM TRANSFORMER

UPDATE: POWER SUPPLY RESTORED IN WILDERNESS AND BEING SUPPLIED THROUGH ESKOM TRANSFORMER

Power supply has been restored Wilderness. Wilderness is now being fed via Eskom supply once again. Eskom completed the repairs before midnight, last night.

Wilderness and surrounds experienced an unexpected power supply outage that occurred on the Eskom power system over the past weekend. The George Municipality’s Electrotechnical Services came in to pick up the load from its power system and gradually restored the power supply to consumers while Eskom attended to the problem. The power outage, which occurred for hours also negatively impacted the potable water pump station in Wilderness Heights, as the reservoir in that areas was running empty.

Good news is the Eskom repaired the transformer and restored power supply to Wilderness. The George Municipality’s Municipal Manager, Dr Michelle Gratz wishes to thank the George Municipality’s Electrotechnical Services Department for coming in to carry the load while Eskom was busy with repairs. The George Municipality has now normalized the network with customers being supplied through Eskom Transformer.

Dr Gratz also expressed a word of gratitude to customers in the Wilderness areas for their patience and understanding during the power outage period.

GEORGE TO DO EMERGENCY WORKS IN A PORTION OF WILDERNESS TO SUSTAIN ESKOM’S LOAD PICK-UP

George Municipality continues to temporarily supply power outage to Wilderness, following Eskom’s unexpected power outage last night into this afternoon.

According to available information, it appears that the damage on Eskom’s Transformer may take longer to repair, this means that the Municipality must continue longer to temporarily pick up the Wilderness load for the extended time, from its power system.

To ensure sustainability of the temporary pick up of Eskom’s load, the Municipality will have to do emergency works for 2,5 hours on a portion of Wilderness, to allow for this network to continue supplying the customer for the extended duration.

The switch off will take place at 09:00am on Sunday morning, 17 July 2022 until about 11:30am. The emergency work will affect the Pinedew line and Stoker line.

UPDATE: GEORGE TEMPORARILY RESTORES 65% POWER SUPPLY WHILE ESKOM ATTENDS TO THE POWER OUTAGE PROBLEM IN WILDERNESS

UPDATE: GEORGE TEMPORARILY RESTORES 65% POWER SUPPLY WHILE ESKOM ATTENDS TO THE POWER OUTAGE PROBLEM IN WILDERNESS

George continues to pick up Wilderness power as Eskom is attending to the power outage problem on its powerline. George Municipality has restored about 65% power supply in the Wilderness area.

Eskom’s transformer at substation Wilderness has faulted over the last night, resulting in a power outage in Wilderness. While Eskom is attending to the problem, the George Municipality is trying to pick up Wilderness via the George power system.

The load is quite high at the moment, so restoring the entire Wilderness will still take a while as we wait for loads to decrease before energizing the next portion.

We would like to request consumers whose power has been restored to use power sparingly so that we can restore the power supply to other consumers quicker.

IT’S BACK TO NORMAL AT HEROLDS BAY BEACH AS THE TIDES ARE LOW

Earlier this afternoon, the George Municipality’s Disaster Management Services warned the public not to visit the Herolds Bay beach due to high tides.

Structural damages to infrastructure and property were found this afternoon following the high tides. No injuries or evacuations had to be done.

Even though the Disaster Management Services team is happy to confirm that the tides are low, as the waves have gone back to normal, there a great possibility that the same may be experienced tomorrow morning.
