LOAD SHEDDING UPDATE: 13 MAY 2022

Due to some recovery in the generation capacity this afternoon, Stage 1 loadshedding will be implemented from 17:00 – 22:00 tonight (Eskom) – Eskom.

George & Uniondale schedule remain the same as announced earlier today, as follows:
George will be off from 17:00 to 18:30
Uniondale will be off from 19:00 to 21:30

George Municipality is busy replacing equipment on the bulk water lines. These areas therefore will experience water interruptions as follows:

UNEXPECTED POWER OUTAGE IN HAWTHRONEDENE AREA

Power outage in Hawthornedene area (Heatherpark). Medium Voltage (MV) cable  was damaged by contractor. The teams on site have isolated the damaged cable as well as restored portion of the network. The remaining portions are supplied from the affected mini substation which will unfortunately remain off until the MV cable is repaired.

’n Gedeelte van Victoria-, Robert-, Raglan- en Taylorstraat in Uniondale sal onbepaald sonder water wees. Ons gaan ‘n watertrok tussen die strate beweeg wat sonder water sal wees.
Die waterdienstespan is intussen besig met skadebepaling en bevestiging van pypmateriaal wat benodig word.

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN UNIONDALE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT UNDERWAY

A section of Victoria, Robert, Raglan and Taylor streets in Uniondale will be without water indefinitely. We’re going to move a water truck between the streets that will be without water.
The water services team is meanwhile busy with damage assessment and confirming pipe materials required.

CALL FOR BICYCLE BUSINESS PROPOSAL APPLICATION

The George Municipality, Economic Development Department in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works is rolling out a bicycle project as part of its promoting non-motorized transport.

The objective of the project is to assist young, local entrepreneurs (18 – 35 years) with a resource for a start-up business. The Economic Development Department will distribute the bicycles which will remain the property of the George Municipality.

The bicycle business / service must preferably operate in Pacaltsdorp, Conville / Rosemoor, Wilderness, Thembalethu, Parkdene/ Borchards and Waboomskraal / Kleinkrantz areas.

Youth entrepreneurs are invited to submit a bicycle business proposal application for consideration. The following criteria will apply.

  • Youth entrepreneur (18 – 35 years old)
  • Resident of George
  • Viable bicycle business idea
  • The activities carried out by the organisation / business have a potential to create jobs
  • The organisation/ business is willing to provide a monitoring & evaluating report every 3 months, reflecting on how the bicycles are being used
  • Be able to show the relative need or market for bicycle business / services

Application forms can be obtained from the George Municipal Website, the Economic Development Office in Industrial Road and Tourism Office.

Completed applications must be placed in the tender box at the George Municipality on the First Floor, Directorate: Financial Services, Supply Chain Management, York street, George by no later than 12h00 on Friday 20 May 2022. Late applications will not be considered.
