Update Eskom load shedding schedule reduced to stage 2

ESKOM LOAD SHEDDING REDUCED to STAGE 2 FROM 5H00 TODAY, TUES ( 25 FEB 2025) UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Stage 4 load shedding will continue to be implemented until 5:00 AM on Tuesday. Thereafter, load shedding will be reduced to Stage 2 until further notice.

This decision follows the successful recovery of eight out of ten generation units and the restoration of 3 808MW from units that tripped over the weekend, with an additional 1 146MW expected to be recovered overnight.

While the recovery of the emergency reserves is progressing well, further replenishment is required to reach sufficient levels.

These positive developments support our ongoing focused efforts to stabilise the power supply and ensure reliability.

Currently, unplanned outages are at 13 690MW, which is 690MW higher than our summer outlook base case of 13 000MW. Ongoing planned maintenance stands at 7 245MW, in alignment with our summer period maintenance strategy, that is at increased levels in order to prepare for winter and meet licence and regulatory requirements.

Eskom will provide the next update on Tuesday, 25 February 2025, or as soon as any significant changes occur.

Eskom Load shedding schedule update: 24 February 2025 @06:19

Loadshedding will be reduced to Stage 4 from Monday at 00:30 until further notice. This follows the successful recovery of all five units at Majuba, two units at Camden, and one unit at Medupi since Saturday, totaling eight out of ten generation units that had tripped this weekend.

Additionally, emergency reserves replenishment is progressing well. The return of these units comes after identifying the root causes of multiple unit trips, which were unconnected and purely technical in nature, related to electrical and control system issues in auxiliary parts of these power stations.

ROTATIONAL SWITCH ON AFTER LOADSHEDDING – reduce power to avoid network tripping

Consumers are reminded to PLEASE use electricity sparingly after power returns. Please do not switch high-usage equipment on immediately after Load shedding.

Consumers are urged to turn off high-usage equipment and where possible to not switch on appliances such as stoves and kettles for at least 30 minutes after load shedding is scheduled to return. This will reduce the risk of overload tripping on the network.

Reporting power outages
Please do not phone the after-hours number or the Electrotechnical Department to report that you have no power immediately after load shedding is scheduled to be lifted. Please be aware of the rotational switching on i.e. areas are switched on one by one and not all at the same time to avoid overloading the system. Please wait at least 30 minutes before reporting no power. The Electrotechnical Directorate will be aware of a possible substation trip that needs to be sorted out.
