PUBLIC NOTICE: INTERRUPTION OF POTABLE WATER SUPPLY NOTIFICATION, WILDERNESS

THE FOLLOWING AREAS WILL BE AFFECTED: SOUTHSIDE, 10TH AVENUE, DIE DUIN, MILKWOOD VILLAGE & ANCHORAGE LANE

NOTICE is hereby given that the potable water supply will be interrupted from TUESDAY 8 OCTOBER 2024 FROM 09:00 TO 12:00 for the purpose of doing alterations to the portable water bulk supply pipeline.

Consumers are requested to please use water very sparingly during this period and for a few days afterward to allow the network to stabilise.

Public Notice: Closure of Conville Library due to fumigation

Please take note, Conville Library will be closed earlier on Friday, 4 October 2024 at 16h30, will be closed on Saturday, 5 October and reopen Monday, 7 October at 09:00 for the public due to fumigation.
Patrons can, however, make use of their closest branch library in George if the need arises.

UPDATE: WATER LEAK – Repairs Denneoord

Repair work to the faulty Valves are underway at corner of 8th avenue and Eiland Street in Denneoord.
Residents are kindly requested to practice caution and to be patient as traffic may become congested.

A water tanker will be circulating in the affected areas to assist residents affected by the outage.

Residents without water are requested to call 044 801 6300 to report water outage.

Safety and Security Expo Invitation

The George Municipality, in collaboration with the Western Cape Provincial Government and the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM), invites residents and stakeholders to a Safety and Security Expo hosted by Executive Mayor of George, Ald Jackie von Brandis. The event aims to create an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to engage in safety and security within the George Municipal Area.

The event will feature speakers addressing safety concerns, an expo where attendees can interact with stakeholders at their respective booths, and an opportunity for neighbourhood watches to register with the Western Cape Government’s Department of Policing Oversight and Community Safety.

Crime remains a pressing challenge for South Africans, including residents of George. This event encourages our community to unite and play an active role in securing our neighbourhoods

With this event, we are creating a platform for safety and security to take centre stage and receive the necessary attention it deserves. Residents interested in interacting with our stakeholders and establishing or (re) registering neighbourhood watches are encouraged to attend the event.

UPGRADING OF GEORGE SOUTH STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE: PHASE 1

The upgrading of a section of the George South stormwater infrastructure will have an impact on residents, pedestrians, runners, cyclists and road users.

PROJECT:
UPGRADING OF GEORGE SOUTH STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE: PHASE 1

DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this Contract is to upgrade a section of the existing stormwater infrastructure in order to minimize the impact of severe rainfall events within the George South area.

The scope of works includes replacing of stormwater pipelines, junction boxes, catchpits, inlet structures, outlet structures, portal culverts and the construction of a detention pond.

PROJECT PERIOD:
Initial Project Period:
March 2024 to August 2024

Revised Project Period:
March 2024 to November 2024

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
No Municipal services will be affected. Road lane closures will be implemented along the alignment of the new stormwater infrastructure.

The Contractor will liaise with directly affected residents in advance, to arrange local access where and when required.

WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 18h00 Mondays to Fridays and 07h00 – 14h00 on Saturdays as may be needed from time to time.

IMPACT:
The construction area will be fully closed to the public. No pedestrians, runners or cyclists may access the construction area throughout the duration of the construction period. Flag persons and temporary road signage must be adhered to at all times.

ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the construction site will be strictly controlled. No member of the public will be allowed access to the construction area, in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Please look out for and adhere to temporary road signage and be aware of roadwork personnel.
Details of further road upgrade work will be published as may be necessary.

UPGRADING OF PARKDENE WATER RETICULATION NETWORK

The upgrading of the water reticulation network in Parkdene will have an impact on the residents and road users during the construction period from February 2024 to March 2025. The estimated construction duration is 13 months.

PROJECT:
UPGRADING OF THE PARKDENE WATER RETICULATION NETWORK

DESCRIPTION:
The work consists of installing approximately 5700m of uPVC Class 16 water reticulation pipes varying in size from 75mm to 160mm, installing ERF connections, isolation valves, fire hydrants, as well as the installation of bulk water meters, road crossings and the associated reinstatement.

PROJECT PERIOD:
February 2024 to March 2025.

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Interruptions can be expected during the connection to the existing reticulation, commissioning, re-connection, and installation of new smart water meters. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.

WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 17h00 on Mondays to Fridays and 07h00 – 14h00 on Saturdays as may be needed from time to time.

IMPACT:
The intended construction works will take place mainly in the road reserves with some open trench road crossings planned and work on properties during water meter connections and commissioning. The works will impact on residents, pedestrians, scholars, runners, cyclists, and road users.

It is, however, important for the public to take notice of the intended works since there will be excavations and work done on existing water infrastructure. The work area will be fully closed to the public.

No pedestrians, scholars, runners, cyclists or other may access the construction area throughout the duration of the construction period. Access to properties will be managed between the contractor and the property occupants.

ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. No member of the public will be allowed access to the construction area, in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

REFURBISHMENT OF THE HEROLD’S BAY WASTEWATER TREATMENT WORKS

The refurbishment of the Herold’s Bay Wastewater Treatment Works will have an impact on residents and road users during the construction period from
September 2024 to July 2025. The estimated construction duration is 10 months.

PROJECT:
REFURBISHMENT OF THE HEROLD’S BAY WASTEWATER TREATMENT WORKS

DESCRIPTION:
Refurbishment of existing Wastewater Stabilization Ponds. The existing concrete lining will be demolished and removed from the site. A new underdrain system will be installed, and the existing cement lining will be replaced with a waterproof lining system. A new tanker discharge chamber will be constructed with the required access road.

PROJECT PERIOD:
September 2024 to July 2025

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Municipal services may be disrupted during construction. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.

WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 17h00 on Mondays to Fridays and 07h00 – 14h00 on Saturdays as may be needed from time to time.

TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Caution needs to be exercised by residents, road users and pedestrians throughout the duration of the construction period.

ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. Any member of the public who enters the site will have to comply with the relevant requirements in terms of the Health and Safety Act.
