PUBLIC ALERT: Update on heavy rainfall

Heavy rainfall this morning resulted in a number of roads throughout George being under water and flooding of private structures.
ROAD STATUS/STORMWATER
Wellington Road – one lane open (sewerage pipe that is being addressed)
Saasveld Road – a fallen tree on the Wilderness side has been cleared.
Water has generally subsided elsewhere on all roads.
Only a few homes experienced damages due to stormwater problems in Uniondale and Haarlem.
POWER OUTAGES
Victoria Bay – portion off while repairs are being done.
Wilderness heights – Strydom line and portion of Wilderness Heights line currently off. Tree on the line, electricians are on site and busy isolating the problem for repairs to be done. This affects 9 farms.
Wilderness CBD, Wilderness Heights, Wilderness East, Ebb and Flow and Map of Africa also experiencing power outage currently. Electricians will give an assessment soon.
FLOODING
Several formal structures (23) have been reported as flooded or suffering water damage. Our Emergency Services has provided sandbags where possible.
Two informal structures have had water damage in Blanco and house in Maraiskamp. George Municipality Human Settlements have been inundated with requests for gunplast.
REFUSE REMOVAL
Refuse removal continues as scheduled for today unless there is a heavy downpour again then work might be delayed for the duration of the heavy rain. We will keep the public informed of any major changes.
REFUSE REMOVAL MONDAY: Blanco, Riverlea, Heatherpark, Heatherlands, Glen Barrie, Kraaibosch, Groenkloof, Blue Mountain Village, Herold’s Bay, Victoria Bay, Rondevlei area (George side).
More rainfall is expected throughout the day. Updates will be posted to social media as they become available.
