Urgent public notice: NO SWIMMING at Gwaiing Beach until further notice

Chief Fire Officer and Emergency Services for George, Neels Barnard, confirmed that Gwaiing beach is currently still closed for swimming. The beach had to be closed for swimming on Tuesday, 7 December 2021 due to large pieces of debris in the river mouth after Monday’s heavy rainfall. He said there are lifeguards stationed at the beach but no swimming will be allowed at this stage due to safety concerns.
The water is very deep at some points and debris are under the sand and sticking out from under the sand can cause serious injury to bathers. We will keep the public informed of any further developments.
