The Executive Mayor of George, Alderman Browen Johnson, has expressed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of former George Municipality councillor Alderman Johan Stander.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Alderman Johan Stander, a friend, colleague and dedicated public servant who made a lasting contribution to our communities,” said Mayor Johnson.

Alderman Stander served as the Ward 23 councillor from 2011 to 2021. During his tenure on Council, he held the portfolios of Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Planning and Development and MMC for Civil Engineering Services.

He returned to Council in June 2023, serving as a councillor and a member of the Mayoral Committee until July 2026. In November 2025, he was conferred the prestigious title of Alderman in recognition of his service.

“His commitment to serving residents and his contribution to George have left a lasting mark on the community,” Mayor Johnson added. “The Municipality extends its heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, children and grandchildren, whom he loved so dearly. The family and all those who knew and loved him remain in our thoughts during this difficult time.”

“Rest in eternal peace, Oom Johan. You will be deeply missed, and your contribution to our community will not be forgotten,” concluded Mayor Johnson.
