TEMPORARY LANDFILL SITE CLOSURE

Please be advised that the landfill site is temporarily closed today due to a mechanical breakdown of essential machinery. As a result, there is currently no available dumping space.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this time. An update will be provided as soon as operations resume.

Important: We kindly request that no loads be dumped on or near the access roads.

’n Waterpyp het in Rietvlei, Uniondale gebars. Gevolglik sal die hele gebied vir ongeveer 2 uur sonder water wees.

Munisipale personeel is tans besig om die breek te herstel, en ’n watertenk sal in die gebied rondry om inwoners tydelike van water water voorsien.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Water Supply Interruption – Rietvlei, Uniondale
Issued by George Municipality, 18 August 2025

A waterpipe has burst in Rietvlei, Uniondale. As a result, the entire area will experience a water supply interruption for approximately 2 hours.

Municipal staff are on-site attending to the burst, and a water truck will be circulating in the area to provide temporary relief.

We apologise for the inconvenience.

Urgent Public Notice: Extension Of Waterworks 20ml – Mechanical & Electrical

The planned construction of the Upgrading of the MV cable in Denneoord, from 8th Avenue and along 11th Avenue to the Water Treatment Works will commence on the 18th of August 2025 and is programmed to be completed by the end of October 2025.

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Minor operational interruptions can be expected during the construction works and some driveway accesses will be affected. The contractor will liaise directly with affected residents.

TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Residents, road users, and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution during the construction period. Please adhere to flag persons, temporary construction works and road signage.

ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the construction site will be strictly controlled. In accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, no members of the public will be allowed in the construction area.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION: Gwaing, Schaapkop and Meulen River Integrated River Management Plans

George Municipality invites the public and interested parties to comment on the Draft River Management Plans (incl. Maintenance Management Plans) for the Gwaing, Schaapkop & Meulen Rivers. The Municipality appointed Zutari (Pty) Ltd to develop Integrated River Management Plans (RMPs).

These plans, which include Maintenance Management Plans (MMPs), aim to facilitate efficient maintenance of existing infrastructure while improving the ecological functioning and ecosystem services of these vital watercourses.

The Draft RMPs are available for public review and comment from 15 August 2025 to 15 September 2025.
