PUBLIC NOTICE: CONSTRUCTION OF TWO NEW TRAFFIC CIRCLES ON YORK STREET

PUBLIC NOTICE: CONSTRUCTION OF TWO NEW TRAFFIC CIRCLES ON YORK STREET

TRAFFIC ACCOMMODATION DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON

PROJECT: YORK STREET TRAFFIC CIRCLES

DESCRIPTION:

Construction of two new traffic circles in York Street next to the old tourist resort (Mount View Resort) between Hope Street Circle and the GO GEORGE Bus Depot.

BACKGROUND:

Road upgrades are required to accommodate the additional traffic which is expected to be generated by the proposed Mediclinic, 1onYork and crocodile farm residential developments. Although designs are according to Municipal and Provincial requirements, the project is funded by various private stakeholders.

TRAFFIC ACCOMMODATION:

In order to assist with traffic flow over the festive season, construction of Phase 2 has been placed on hold until the start of the new year (2023). During the festive season, both the North Bound and South Bound lanes will be open to traffic.

Vehicles travelling towards the North along York Street will make use of the newly realigned road and will be required to navigate the two half circles that have already been constructed.

Vehicles travelling towards the South along York Street will continue to use the old York Street alignment.

Motorists are requested to reduce speed and apply caution while negotiating the half circles.

ANY QUERIES DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON CAN BE DIRECTED TO MARCO (RUWACON CONSTRUCTION) AT 065 963 8293

GWAING RIVER BEACH Mouth CLOSED DUE TO HIGH E.Coli LEVEL FOUND – INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

Internal water samples have indicated high levels of E.Coli at the Gwaing River Beach Mouth and therefore is closed for swimming. George Municipality is investigating the cause of the sludge.
On preliminary investigation no link to the Municipal infrastructure could be found. We have already checked all of our sewer pump stations. We continue to do everything to find the source of the spill.
