Update on low water pressure and possible water outages

Update on low water pressure and possible water outages: Portions of Borchards, Lawaaikamp and Parkdene are currently experiencing low water pressures and in some instances no water due to a high volume of water that was lost yesterday after a private fibre contractor damaged two main lines. On top of the water loss, the water demand is considerably high today, due to the hot weather. Our engineers foresee that the water supply will only stabilise later this evening when the demand is lower. All properties in Lawaaikamp should have water but will experience low pressures. Three water trucks were deployed to roam the Lawaaikamp area. We ask the public to be patient and use water sparingly and phone any water problems through to 044 801 9262/6 (7h45-16h30) or after hours 044 801 6300. Please do not post individual complaints on social media as our social media is not a formal complaints channel and is not manned 24/7. Issued by George Mun 23 November 2022 at 14h30.

UPDATE: LIBRARIES UNABLE TO ISSUE BOOKS AND CARDS DUE TO AN ONGOING FAULTY INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

UPDATE: LIBRARIES UNABLE TO ISSUE BOOKS AND CARDS DUE TO AN ONGOING FAULTY INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Please note that the Information Management System used by non-metro libraries, SLIMS, is still down since Friday last week. All libraries in the George Municipal area are having problems with the issue and return of books. The issue of cards, bus tours, interlibrary loans, as well as the purchasing and distribution of new books are all services that are affected.

This is a provincial-wide problem that affects all libraries in the Western Cape, except the City of Cape Town.

All libraries in George, however, remain open to the public as access to information is a basic human right. All internet and WI-FI facilities and in-house use of libraries remain open and available to the public.

SLIMS is administered by SITA and confirmation that SITA is still working on resolving the problem was received from Provincial Library Service this morning.

This is beyond the control of the George Municipality, and we request the public to be patient until the matter is resolved.
