Notice to All Waste Transporters in the George Municipal Area

All individuals and businesses involved in the transportation of waste within the George Municipal area are hereby requested to contact the Solid Waste Department as soon as possible.

The purpose of this notice is to compile a comprehensive Waste Transporter Register as part of our environmental compliance and waste management initiatives.

• Permit or License Information (if applicable)

Kennisgewing aan alle Afvalvervoerders in die George-munisipaliteitsgebied

Alle individue en sake-ondernemings betrokke by die vervoer van afval binne die George Muni-sipale gebied word hiermee versoek om so gou moontlik die vasteafvalafdeling te kontak.

Die doel van hierdie kennisgewing is om ‘n omvattende afvalvervoerderregister saam te stel as deel van ons omgewingsvoldoening en afvalbestuurinisiatiewe.

Thembalethu East- T/ING/039/2023- Work on Saturday 14th & Monday 16th June 2025

A planned construction activity of the Thembalethu East Reservoir, initially scheduled to take place on weekdays, will also include Saturday, 14 June 2025, and Monday (Public holiday), 16 June 2025, from 07h00 to 16h00.

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Minor operational interruptions can be expected during the construction works. Advance notifications of planned temporary disruptions and the effects thereof will be issued via social media.

TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Residents, road users, and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution during the construction period. Please adhere to flag persons, temporary construction works and road signage.

ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the construction site will be strictly controlled. In accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, no members of the public will be allowed in the construction area.

Pacaltsdorp library closed for stocktake 22 – 24 July 2025

Please take note, Pacaltsdorp Library will be closed from 22 – 24 July 2025 due to asset verification planning that needs to be done by the Provincial Library Service.
Unfortunately, no checking in or checking out of any library material may be done on these dates as it will compromise the outcome of the stocktake.
In terms of Section 14 of Regulations PK.689/1980 a full asset verification should be done in all libraries affiliated with the Provincial Library Service, Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
The library will reopen for the public again on Friday, 25 July 2025.

Temporary Closure of Gwaing Landfill Site

The public is hereby informed that the Gwaing Landfill Site will remain closed today, 10 June 2025, due to adverse weather conditions.

Residents are advised that the Waste Transfer Station remains open for the disposal of domestic waste. The landfill site will be reopened once conditions allow safe access and operation.

Please also note that, due to the current adverse weather, green bag collections will take place today, 10 June 2025. Our Refuse and Green Bags teams will be working overtime to address operational delays caused by the weather and mechanical breakdowns.

Residents in Blanco, Heather Park, Heatherlands, Highlands, Blue Mountain Estate, Groenkloof, and part of Glenbarrie are kindly requested to place their green bags outside for collection. The usual refuse removal schedule for Tuesday will continue as planned.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank residents for their cooperation and understanding.

Public Notice: Temporary closure of Gwaing Landfill Site

Please be advised that the Gwaing Landfill Site is temporarily closed today due to inclement weather conditions.
Residents are advised that the Waste Transfer Station remains open and is available for the disposal of domestic waste.

The landfill site will be reopened once the facility is in a suitable condition.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, please note that green bag collections have been suspended with immediate effect and will resume on Tuesday, 10 June 2025.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding.

PUBLIC NOTICE: UPDATE on status of Gwaing River

Following extensive testing conducted over the past two weeks at multiple locations, George Civil Engineering Services (CES) is pleased to confirm that the Gwaing River, including the Gwaing River Mouth and beach, is deemed safe for swimming, fishing, and other water-related activities.

The municipality extends its gratitude to the public for their patience during this period.
