UPDATED PUBLIC NOTICE: Gwaiing Landfill Site open again

The Gwaiing landfill site is open today (Thursday, 16 January) after it was closed yesterday due to inclement weather.
Please note, yesterday’s green bags will be removed today. Removal of refuse will continue on the normal schedule from today onwards.
The George Waste Transfer Station remains open for the disposal of domestic waste. We ask the public to be extra cautious when driving at the landfill site, since the site is still muddy after the rain.

Pacaltsdorp road upgrades extended to Mission Street

Pacaltsdorp road upgrades extended to Mission Street
Starting date for bus route deviations: 19 January 2025 | Duration: 18 months

Having started with extensive road upgrades in Pacaltsdorp in October 2024, the George Municipality will now extend roadworks to the section between the Clinic/Mission Street and Protea/Mission Street intersections, requiring bus route deviations to start on Sunday 19 January 2025.

Impact on Route 1A New Dawn Park – CBD
• Route 1A will now operate in one direction only, entering Pacaltsdorp via Heather Street, like the rest of the Pacaltsdorp routes (see map attached).
• The Protea terminal will be inaccessible due to the direction of travel. Passengers can use stop FERN 387 or PETUNIA 391.
• Travelling towards town, route 1A will operate anticlockwise around the superblock (York, Courtenay, Memoriam, Market Streets) to avoid bunching, turning right onto Market Street towards the Transport Hub and using stop 756A Cradock B in front of the old York Hostel.
• Timetables have been adapted to adjust to the anticipated impact and will be applied from 19 January. Visit www.gogeorge.org.za/timetables for the adapted timetables from 16 January.
• The real impact will be monitored once the rerouting has started, with adjustments made as necessary.

All the other Pacaltsdorp routes continue with rerouting as communicated last year.

SOME GOOD NEWS
Route 1E Pacaltsdorp – Hospital will be operating between 09:20 and 14:00 on weekdays, traveling between Pacaltsdorp and the CBD (not going to the hospital). In the CBD, it will travel clockwise around the superblock (like the normal Route 1B), and in Pacaltsdorp, the bus will follow the normal Route 1E. This bus will use bus stop 755A Mispel in Market Street.

Please be prepared to adapt your travel schedule to work or school as long as the upgrades are underway. It is going to be a challenge for all road users, including bus passengers. Let’s do this together!
