REFUSE COLLECTION DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON

Households may put out SEVEN BLACK, FOUR GREEN and an UNLIMITED number of BLUE bags on their weekly collection day.
Additional tied bundles of branches are allowed if they are shorter than a metre in length and can be picked up by one person.

16 December 2024 – Collection as per normal schedule – Monday
25 December 2024 – Collection as per normal schedule – Wednesday
26 December 2024 – Collection as per normal schedule – Thursday
27 December 2024 – Collection as per normal schedule – Friday
30 December 2024 – Collection as per normal schedule – Monday
31 December 2024 – Collection as per normal schedule – Tuesday
1 January 2025 – Collection as per normal schedule – Wednesday
ALL BUSINESS REFUSE WILL BE COLLECTED ON MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS AND FRIDAYS, INCLUDING CHRISTMAS Day (25 December 2024) and NEW YEAR’S DAY 1 January 2025
BLUE bags are for non-soiled recyclable materials, including plastic, paper, cardboard, glass etc.
GREEN bags are for green waste, including organic kitchen waste such as fruit and vegetable peels, as well as garden waste, including grass cuttings, leaves etc. No soil is allowed in green bags.
BLACK bags are for ‘wet’ waste, things that cannot be recycled.
All refuse bags must be put out by 7am on removal day.
Please don’t put bags out the day or night before removal.
Please wrap broken glass in newspaper before placing in bags to prevent injuries to workers.
A pack of 26 black bags are distributed to households quarterly.
Black bags are removed by George Municipality trucks and green and blue bags are removed by service provider Henque Waste trucks, all on the same day.
Participating households will receive a maximum of two blue and two green replacement bags per week
Households or businesses that are actively recycling and require additional blue bags, can collect from the municipality Environmental Services department or Henque Waste at the addresses listed below.
Households that regularly generate more than four green bags per week are advised to make use of a private garden or waste removal service.

MUNICIPAL REFUSE SITE
Building rubble, garden waste and other stuff not suitable for bags, can be dropped off at the George Municipality refuse site on the R102 (airport road).
Open Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm
Saturday 7am-3pm
All public holidays, except 25 December, from 7am-3pm
GO GEORGE SERVICE ALERT: SANCO MARCH ON THURSDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2024 – MAJOR DISRUPTIONS EXPECTED

Please take note of expected delays and possible service suspension on Thursday 28 November 2024 due to a SANCO march from Thembalethu to the CBD.
• Local taxi services will not be operational until after the march, which will increase demand for the bus service.
• GO GEORGE staff members will also be affected by the situation, possibly disrupting fully operational services.
Passengers and employers are encouraged to arrange alternative transport if possible, and to be patient while GO GEORGE endeavors to offer the best possible services under the circumstances.

Parkdene and Conville Power Outage

George Municipality is aware of an unplanned power outage that occurred in the Parkdene and Conville areas due to cable damage caused by a contractor.
Our electricians are currently investigating the fault. An estimated time of restoration (ETR) will be communicated.
URGENT PUBLIC NOTICE: NEW WTW 20MLD EXTENSION : Tie -in: 27 November 2024
DESCRIPTION:
Tie-ins of the new raw water pipeline and commissioning of the new pipe and de-commissioning the old steel pipe, starting at 7h00 on 27 Nov 24. The 2 x Tie-ins will be done simultaneously within 12 hrs.
CONSTRUCTION PERIOD:
27 November 2024
SERVICE DISRUPTION:
The supply of potable water to the residents of George Municipality should not be disrupted while the construction work is carried out during the period above. Further communication will follow should circumstances change.
TRAFFIC IMPACT:
No impact on traffic.
ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the construction site will be strictly controlled. In accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, no members of the public will be allowed in the construction area.

Closure of Uniondale Driving Licence Testing Centre for 2024
Please be advised that the Uniondale Driving Licence Testing Centre will be closed for business from 2 December 2024 and will reopen on 15 January 2025.

Adjusted Extended Hours for Wilderness Tourism Office
Kindly note that we have reviewed the extended hours from last year and submitted slightly adjusted hours for this year. The Saturday hours have moved later to accommodate the morning market in Wilderness, after which there were several enquiries last year.
The George office opens at normal hours, as before.
THE WILDERNESS OFFICE WILL BE OPEN AS FOLLOWS:

CLOSURE OF GEORGE MUNICIPALITY’S VEHICLE TESTING STATION
Please be advised that the Vehicle Testing Station of the George Municipality is currently closed until further notice due to a technical malfunction with the brake roller system.
As a result, no roadworthiness tests will be conducted at this time.
Our office remains in communication with the service provider and is optimistic for a swift resolution.
Updates regarding the progress will be communicated as soon as they are available.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause as we strive to enhance our service delivery.
Temporary Closure of George and Wilderness Tourism Offices
The George and Wilderness Tourism Offices will close at 13:00 on Thursday, 28 November 2024, to accommodate a pre-season team-building and year-end function.
Operating hours for Thursday, 28 November 2024:
• Open from 08:45 to 13:00
• Regular operations will resume on Friday, 29 November 2024.
Additionally, the Wilderness Tourism Office will operate with extended hours during the high season. We appreciate your understanding.
