COUNTDOWN TO GEORGE FESTIVAL 2025 – JUST 9 DAYS TO GO!

With just nine days to go, excitement is building as George gears up for the vibrant George Festival 2025, set to bring an unforgettable mix of culture, music, and sport to the city. This year’s festival will unfold across multiple venues, with cultural and musical showcases at Unity Park and the Kaptein Dikkop Amphitheatre in Pacaltsdorp, while an extensive line-up of sporting events will energise communities in Thembalethu, Rosemore, and Unity Park.

Festival-goers can look forward to major highlights over four days, including the Annual Lights Festival, the Gospel Festival, the Jazz Festival, and a Multicultural Day of sport and entertainment with the sports finals being played at Unity Park on 16 December. Apart from the promise of thrilling sporting action, crowds will be entertained with live music, family activities, and festival vibes for a truly unforgettable day.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to familiarise themselves with road closures scheduled for 13, 14, and 16 December as they plan their festival routes. FOUR UNFORGETTABLE DAYS AWAIT
From 13 to 16 December, the George Festival 2025 will transform the city into a vibrant landscape of entertainment, culture, music, and sport. Activities will be hosted across Unity Park, the Garden Route Botanical Gardens, Thembalethu, Rosemoor, Pacaltsdorp, and the George Museum.
Saturday, 13 December
A full day of sport starting with the George Parkrun, Home of Golf Sundowner Challenge — including 5-a-side soccer, Indigenous Games, 7’s Rugby, Netball, and Table Tennis — followed by the much-loved Annual Lights Festival at Unity Park, with live music, markets, and family fun.
Sunday, 14 December
The popular George Street Mile, the George Trails/GTR Trail Run (14km and 7km), ongoing community sport, and the uplifting Gospel Festival at Unity Park.

Monday, 15 December
A cultural showcase at the Long Table Literary and Arts Experience at the George Museum; a Kiddies Fun Zone at the Botanical Gardens; Bowls for the Blind; and the Louis Massyn ROCKET 10KM and 5KM Fun Run.

Tuesday, 16 December
Finals across all sporting codes; Chess, Dominoes, and Scrabble at Unity Park; Live music, stalls and performances at Unity Park, the thrilling George Trails/MTB Hillbillies Dam Dash (55km, 20km, 10km); the GTR Cross Hike (6km); and the Jazz Summer Festival at the Kaptein Dikkop Amphitheatre in Pacaltsdorp.

PUBLIC NOTICE: UNIONDALE OFFICES AND TOWN HALL – FUMIGATION

Please note that the Uniondale Municipal Offices and Town Hall will undergo fumigation on Monday, 8 December 2025.

The buildings will be closed to the public from 14:00 to 16:30.

Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, 9 Desember at 07:45. The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Normale bedrywighede sal Dinsdag, 9 Desemer om 07:45 hervat word. Die Munisipaliteit vra om verskoning vir enige ongerief.

The Gospel Festival promises a day of worship and song on Sunday 14th December from14h00 – 20h00.

George Festival 2025 – Annual Lights Festival

The Annual Lights Festival opens the George Festival on the Saturday 13th December at 14h00 – 22h00.

With a full programme and something for everyone, all residents are invited to attend – Your MC for the Lights Festival will be DIMITRI UNFILTERED at Unity Park.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Refuse Collection During the Festive Season

Households may put out SEVEN BLACK, FOUR GREEN, and an UNLIMITED number of BLUE bags on their weekly collection day.

Additional tied bundles of branches are allowed if they are shorter than a metre in length and can be picked up by one person.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF HOUSEHOLD REFUSE REMOVAL SCHEDULE OVER THE FESTIVE SEASON
16 December 2025 – Collection as per normal schedule – TUESDAY
25 December 2025 – Collection as per normal schedule – THURSDAY
26 December 2025 – Collection as per normal schedule – FRIDAY
1 January 2026 – Collection as per normal schedule – THURSDAY

ALL BUSINESS REFUSE WILL BE COLLECTED ON MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, AND FRIDAYS, INCLUDING CHRISTMAS DAY.
ANY BUSINESS THAT WANTS EXTRA REFUSE COLLECTION DUE TO WASTE VOLUMES, CAN CONTACT THE REFUSE REMOVAL OFFICES TO MAKE SUCH ARRANGEMENTS AND MAKE PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS.

BLUE bags are for non-soiled recyclable materials, including plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, etc.
GREEN bags are for green waste, including organic kitchen waste such as fruit and vegetable peels, as well as garden waste, including grass cuttings, leaves, etc. No soil is allowed in green bags.
BLACK bags are for ‘wet’ waste, things that cannot be recycled.

All refuse bags must be put out by 7 am on removal day.

Please don’t put bags out the day or night before removal.

Please wrap broken glass in newspaper before placing it in bags to prevent injuries to workers.
A pack of 26 black bags is distributed to households quarterly.

Black and green bags are removed by George Municipality trucks, and blue bags are removed by service provider Henque Waste trucks, all on the same day.

Participating households will receive a maximum of two blue and two green replacement bags per week

Households or businesses that are actively recycling and require additional blue bags can collect from the municipality’s Environmental Services department or Henque Waste at the addresses listed below.

Households that regularly generate more than four green bags per week are advised to make use of a private garden or waste removal service.
