PUBLIC NOTICE: Report any threats of intimidation or violence related to EFF Shutdown to SAPS
George Municipality strongly supports the call made by fellow municipalities in the Western Cape – who have urged any of their local businesses, organisations or institutions that receive threats of violence or looting to take place on Monday, 20 March 2023, to lay a complaint of intimidation with their nearest police station and inform the Municipality thereof.
Any form of violence, looting, damage to property or intimidation is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. Such threats should be registered with the South African Police Service (SAPS) immediately – whether it is a phone call, email or letter. The municipality does not condone threats of violence, looting and intimidation. We do support the right to gather and protest peacefully.
The George Traffic, Law Enforcement and Fire Services departments remain on alert in collaboration with SAPS, POPS, Neighbourhood Watches and other relevant stakeholders involved in safety and security.
The municipality remains open on Monday 20 March 2023, and municipal service delivery will continue.
