PUBLIC NOTICE: UPGRADING OF BEER STREET, WOLTEMADE & O’CONNEL STREETS

PROJECT: UPGRADING OF BEER STREET, WOLTEMADE AND O’CONNELL STREETS
Upgrading of these streets will impact road users from August 2024 to March 2025

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
George Municipality is upgrading Beer Street (from Oerson Buys Street to Fotheringham Street), Woltemade Street (from Beer Street to Rietbok Street) and O’Connell Street (from Niewoudt Street to Fotheringham Street), together with associated works including Universal Accessible sidewalks and upgrading associated stormwater pipes and structures.

CONSTRUCTION PERIOD: 12 August 2024 – 30 March 2025

SERVICES DISRUPTION
Municipal services may be disrupted during this period due to construction activities. Whenever possible, advance notification of temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.

WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 18h00 Mondays to Fridays and 07h00 – 14h00 on Saturdays as may be needed from time to time.

TRAFFIC IMPACT:
The affected streets will be constructed in demarcated sections and half widths with Stop and Go accommodation of traffic to motorists. Construction preparation activities will commence on 12 August 2024.

Road users and pedestrians are advised to take extra care throughout the construction period and if possible, avoid using these streets to alleviate traffic disruptions. Adherence to temporary road signage and markings is required.

The George Municipality apologises for the inconvenience and appeals to road users to be patient and exercise caution during construction.

Please look out for and adhere to temporary road signage and be aware of roadwork personnel. Details of further road upgrade work will be published as may be necessary
