CITY-WIDE ROAD AND TRANSPORT UPGRADES BENEFITING ALL ROAD USERS
Mission Street HR
George Municipality continues to invest in safer, more efficient and accessible transport infrastructure that benefits all road users, including motorists, public transport commuters, cyclists and pedestrians. Through the Public Transport Network Grant (PTNG) administered by the National Department of Transport, approximately R571 million was allocated during the 2024/25 financial year.
This investment was utilized to improve traffic flow, rehabilitating ageing roads, upgrading sidewalks and intersections, enhancing pedestrian safety, and expanding universal accessibility infrastructure to better accommodate persons with special needs, elderly residents and parents with prams.
The programme also supports the continued expansion of the GO GEORGE bus service through the construction of transfer locations and associated public transport infrastructure, contributing to a smarter, more connected and commuter-friendly city.
