Planned power outage: portion of George South (Palgrave, Meade and Frieda Streets)



The upgrading of Eden Pumpstation Phase 2 will have an impact on residents and road users during the construction, from May 2024 to November 2025. The estimated construction duration is 18 months.
DESCRIPTION:
Site clearance, diversion of existing pipes, demolition of existing inlet structure and stairs, removal of existing fence and gates. Upgrade of electrical equipment inside the existing pump station including MCC, power reticulation, interior and exterior lighting, standby generator, SCADA control system, level sensors etc.
PROJECT PERIOD:
May 2024 to November 2025.
SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Interruption in roadways (Dikkop street) can be expected during the construction of the pipelines. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.
WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 17h00 Mondays to Fridays. Work may also take place on Saturdays from 07H00 to 14H00.
IMPACT:
The intended construction will take place in the adjacent road reserves at the Eden sewage pump station and inside the sewage pump station site itself. The public needs to take note of the intended works since excavations will be done on existing roads, where the existing rising main will be replaced, and a sewer main pipeline will be realigned. The pump station itself will be fully rebuilt and temporary installations will be provided while this work is underway. The work area will be fully closed to the public. The pump station work area will be fully closed to the public throughout the construction period.
ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. No member of the public will be allowed access to the construction area, in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Please be advised that the NATIS System is currently down at the Motor Vehicle Registration Blanco satellite office due to a Network problem. The office has experienced technical difficulties since yesterday, Tuesday, 20 August. However, the system is fully operational at the MVR in Hibernia Street and the public is asked to visit this office (next to the train station) for transactions. The Pacaltsdorp Traffic Services Department (DLTC) is also open for business.

What is the Municipal Court?
* Municipal Courts are a division of the judiciary dedicated to the adjudication of local matters.
* Municipal Courts have exclusive jurisdiction to hear by-law and traffic-related violations sanctioned by the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 and National Land Transport Act 5 of 2009.
* Municipal Courts do not have jurisdiction over offences such as reckless-and-negligent driving, driving under the influence, or common law offences consequent to traffic violations such as culpable homicide.
Which fines may be adjudicated by the Municipal Court?
Traffic fines
* A Section 56 notice that is given to you by a traffic officer, usually for a moving violation. It has a court date on it.
* A Section 341 notice that is sent to a motorist by post for violations caught on traffic camera or for traffic tickets issued in the absence of the motorists (typically non-moving violations, including parking violations). It does not have a court date on it but is a first notice before summons. The Traffic Department will issue a second notice before issuing the summons.
By-law fines
* A Section 56 notice that is given to you by a law enforcement officer, usually for a community safety and/or community services violation. It has a court date on it.
