PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS ON THE WSDP

Notice is hereby given in terms of the Water Services (Act 108 of 1997) that all water services authorities are required to prepare a Water Services Development Plan (WSDP)

The WSDP is a business plan setting out the way in which the water services authority plans to deliver water services to individuals and businesses in its area of jurisdiction. It must also describe the current and future consumer profile, the type of services which are provided, the infrastructure requirements, a water balance, organisational and financial arrangements to be used, assessments of the viability of the approach, and an overview of environmental issues.

Following these analyses, important issues that may impact on the provision of effective and sustainable water and sanitation services need to be identified and strategies must be formulated to improve service provision.

The Executive Summary, the Full Document or the Chapters of the Draft WSDP can be viewed or downloaded at:

https://www.george.gov.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/WSDP_IDPWaterSectorInputReport_George-A4.pdf

Full particulars of the proposed WSDP are available for inspection at the following places:

  • Municipal offices: c/o York and Market Street, George
  • George Library
  • Blanco Library
  • Conville Library
  • Pacaltsdorp Library
  • Thembalethu Library

Please forward your comments and suggestions before 16 July 2022 to PO Box 19, George, 6530 or to fabrahams@george.gov.za

PUBLIC NOTICE: THE DO’S AND DON’TS OF DISPOSING OF SHARP OBJECTS IN REFUSE

For the health and safety of our employees in the Refuse Department, we would like to urge the community to please take heed of the following when disposing of sharp objects as well as medical waste:

Disposing of sharp objects:

  • Carefully wrap up glass, ceramic or other broken, sharp household items in a sheet of newspaper or place it in a cardboard box. Tape the box shut. Put the newspaper or box into another plastic bag and tie the bag shut. The bag should now be safe to place in your general waste bin.

Disposing of medical sharps/waste:

  • Throw away all needles, syringes, lancets, and other sharp objects in a hard plastic or metal container. When the container is ½ to ¾full, put on the lid tightly.
  • You can also use a coffee can to dispose of sharp objects.
  • Do not put sharp objects in glass or clear plastic containers.
  • You can stockpile your needles and other medical waste and look out for the quarterly open day for collecting hazardous waste hosted by George Municipality.
  • You can also wrap it up in the original packaging.  Once you got it wrapped up, drop it off at the recyclers or bury it in your garden should you have a safe spot.  Although made of stainless steel, blades are very thin and will degrade back to mineral form in about a tenth of the time it takes a water bottle to degrade.

For the disposal of medical waste, the public must store the waste in a hard, plastic container and take it to their closest clinic/ hospital. Otherwise please contact:
