URGENT PUBLIC NOTICE: CONTROL BURN at GARDEN ROUTE DAM

George Fire Services will be undertaking a Control Burn today 11 October from 12h00 at the Garden Route Dam, southern flank. This is due to the perfect weather conditions being in place, as well as Garden Route Fire Services availability to assist with the monitoring of the control burn. Residents should be unaffected as the wind direction will move smoke away from the residential area.

George Fire Rescue and Disaster Management services are in the process of planning a number of Control Burns before the start of the fire season. Control burns serve to reduce the fuel loading (dead leaves, tree limbs, and other debris), in areas and are implemented to prevent wildfires spreading. The areas of concern are: Pacaltsdorp  in the Dellville Park area, the area behind Honda George, the Garden Route Dam, southern flank and east of Denneoord. The control burns will take place during October and November and are subject to the prevailing weather conditions. A Public Notice will be issued prior to each Control Burn.

• This outage is a planned outage arranged by Eskom to perform maintenance on their network.
• George Municipality will energise Wilderness clients via the emergency feed from George.
• Clients are encouraged to use electricity sparingly.
• Clients may experience lower than normal voltages.
• Should we encounter any loading issues on the day of the outage, we may have to implement loadshedding within the Wilderness area at short notice.

Sunday, 09 October 2022: Loadshedding will be implemented daily at 16:00 – 00:00 from Monday to Wednesday. To the extent possible, Eskom will endeavour to limit load shedding to night-time to have minimal impact on the economy and population. The load shedding will be used to replenish emergency generation reserves during the night to bolster generation capacity. Eskom will publish a further update on Wednesday afternoon, or as soon as any significant changes occur. – Eskom

VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE
ONLY USE ESSENTIAL APPLIANCES WHEN POWER IS RESTORED Consumers are reminded to use electricity sparingly especially when power returns after load shedding. This will reduce the risk of overload tripping on the network. Consumers are requested, where possible to not switch on appliances such as stoves and kettles for at least 30 minutes after load shedding.
