Weather Warning: Damaging Waves
Issued by George Municipality on behalf of the South African Weather Service, 30 April 2025
The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging waves along parts of the Western Cape coastline — including George — valid from Thursday, 1 May 2025 to Friday, 2 May 2025.
A south-westerly swell with wave heights of 3.5 to 4.5 metres, accompanied by strong to near gale force winds (gusting up to 70km/h), is expected to result in rough sea conditions.
💥 Potential impacts:
• Dangerous navigation conditions for small vessels and watercraft
• Increased risk of capsizing
• Localised disruption to beachfront activities
• Risk of waves sweeping people off coastal rocks
• Temporary disruption at small harbours or ports
