Water outage: George South

A pipe burst has occurred at 93 Palgrave Street in George South, causing a water outage in the area.

Two water trucks will be stationed at the following locations:
Checkers York
The intersection of Rehoboth and Kasteel Street

The current estimated time for repairs is 4-5 hours.

BEACH SAFETY ALERT, Saturday 5 October 2024 @ 9:32

National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and the George Municipality are appealing to bathers, boaters, paddlers, sailors, and shore line anglers to be cautious around the coastline this weekend.

Beaches in the Garden Route are expected to be busy with public enjoying the the warm weather. Importantly, rip currents pose a potential hazard to bathers.

Limited NSRI lifeguard services are in place today (5 October) at the following beaches in the George Municipality:
– Herolds Bay
– Lientjies Klip (Wilderness)
– Victoria Bay

Although these beaches will not have designated swimming areas marked by flags, lifeguards will be present to provide support, conduct preventative actions, and guide the public to ensure water safety.

We extend our thanks to the Herolds Bay Ratepayers Association and the NSRI Lifeguards for sponsoring and securing these vital services for today.

NSRI rescue services will be on standby along with other local emergency services to respond to any emergencies.

UPGRADING OF GEORGE SOUTH STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE: MAJOR ROAD CLOSURES

T/ing/041/2023 upgrading of the George South stormwater Infrastructure: Phase 1

The George municipality would like to inform road users and residents that sections of Newton, Merriman and Palgrave streets will be closed as indicated.

Hope Street was re-opened on 01 October 2024.

Note that work continues adjacent to Hope Street and motorists must remain vigilant in these areas.

The road closures are required for the construction of stormwater culverts within the road reserve. Motorists will be redirected via Mitchell, Fichat and Hope Streets.

The contractor will liaise directly with the affected residents in advance to arrange local access where and when required.

Delivery/other vehicles (GVM +5000kg) to use alternative routes (no heavy motor vehicles in the George South residential areas).

Public Notice: York Street Lane Closure for 30 minutes

Motorists should be aware that the left lane of York Street, heading towards Pacaltsdorp and the CBD, will be closed for 30 minutes on Friday, 4 October 2024. The closure will take place from 12:30 to 13:00 to accommodate a motorcade and parade celebrating the first 100 days in office of the Executive Mayor of George, Ald Jackie von Brandis.
Drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays during this time. The right lane of York Street will remain open to traffic.

Procession
A celebratory procession consisting of a motorcade of Municipal vehicles will depart from the Skatelab to Pick ‘n Pay York Street at 12:30.
At 12:45 George Traffic vehicles and a procession of councillors and officials will walk from Pick a Pay York Street to the front entrance of the George Civic Centre. This will also affect the closure of the left lane of York Street until 13:00.
All lanes in York Street will be cleared for traffic by 13:00.

PUBLIC NOTICE: INTERRUPTION OF POTABLE WATER SUPPLY NOTIFICATION, WILDERNESS

THE FOLLOWING AREAS WILL BE AFFECTED: SOUTHSIDE, 10TH AVENUE, DIE DUIN, MILKWOOD VILLAGE & ANCHORAGE LANE

NOTICE is hereby given that the potable water supply will be interrupted from TUESDAY 8 OCTOBER 2024 FROM 09:00 TO 12:00 for the purpose of doing alterations to the portable water bulk supply pipeline.

Consumers are requested to please use water very sparingly during this period and for a few days afterward to allow the network to stabilise.

Public Notice: Closure of Conville Library due to fumigation

Please take note, Conville Library will be closed earlier on Friday, 4 October 2024 at 16h30, will be closed on Saturday, 5 October and reopen Monday, 7 October at 09:00 for the public due to fumigation.
Patrons can, however, make use of their closest branch library in George if the need arises.
