Upgrading of the Industrial Water Pipeline – Denneoord

The upgrading of the industrial water pipeline in Denneoord will have an impact on the residents, pedestrians, scholars, runners, cyclists and road users. Construction will commence in August 2023. The estimated construction duration is 6 months.

PROJECT: UPGRADING OF THE INDUSTRIAL WATER PIPELINE – DENNEOORD

DESCRIPTION:
The existing 300mm Ø bulk pipeline has reached the end of its design life and the durability of the pipeline is a concern. The new pipeline will be realigned to ensure ease of access for future maintenance activities. The scope of work consists of the realignment and construction of a new 728m long, 315mm diameter uPVC class 9 water pipeline with associated structures, valves and connections. The section of pipeline to be realigned starts at the corner of 8th and 9th Avenues followed by Eiland Road and ends at St Pauls Street.

PROJECT PERIOD:
Mid-August 2023 to March 2024

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
No Municipal services will be affected.

WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 18h00 Mondays to Fridays.

IMPACT:
The construction area will be fully closed to the public.
No pedestrians, runners, cyclists or scholars may access the construction area throughout the duration of the construction period. Cyclists, pedestrians and scholars are to take extreme caution when making use of the walkway adjacent to the site. Flag persons and temporary road signage must be adhered to at all times.

ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. No member of the public will be allowed access to the construction area, in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The Driving Licence Testing Centre has been reopened to the public

The Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) in Pacaltsdorp which was temporarily closed this morning, has now been reopened to the public. All services are available to the public. For enquiries, please contact the Centre at 044 878 2400.

The Driving Licence Testing Centre is temporarily closed until further notice

Please note that the Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) which is situated at Mission Street in Pacaltsdorp has been temporarily closed. No services can be rendered due to a burglary at the Centre. We will inform you as soon as the centre reopens for services.

Public Notice 4: Update on legal march proceedings – 24 August @ 11h50

George Municipality confirms that the legal march is almost at the entrance to the Main Building, Cashier Hall off Progress Street, where the Memorandum is scheduled to be handed over to the Executive Mayor for George, Leon Van Wyk.

George Law Enforcement, Traffic Officials and SAPS continue to monitor proceedings.

Parking at Civic Centre, York Street – Progress Street – Victoria Street
George Municipality would like to advise residents and all Eisteddfod participants that parking around the Municipal Civic Centre has been cordoned off due to the legal march being held today.

Progress Street, York Street (front of Civic Centre) and Victoria Street parking will not be available until after the march disperses. The expected duration of the march is from 09h00 – 15h00.

Eisteddfod parents are requested to make use of on street parking further away from the main municipal building (along York Street) and George Municipal Traffic Wardens will be on hand to direct parents and learners to the main entrance of the Civic Centre.

Public Notice 3: Update on legal march proceedings – 24 August @ 10H45

George Municipality confirms that the legal march scheduled for today is en-route to the Main Municipal Building. Participants have turned into Cradock Street from Nelson Mandela  Boulevard at present.

The march will end at the entrance to the Main Building, Cashier Hall off Progress Street, where the Memorandum is scheduled to be handed over to a political representative for the Office of the Mayor at 12h30.

Please be advised that traffic delays can be expected, and it is suggested that alternate routes are used where feasible. The march is being monitored by George Law Enforcement, Traffic Officials and SAPS until dispersed.

The expected duration of the march is from 09h00 – 15h00.

Roads/ Streets affected along the planned route include:

Hibernia Street (Intersection with Cradock St)

Victoria Street (Intersection with Cradock St)

Market Street (Intersection with Cradock St)

No road closures are planned. Traffic Officials will monitor and redirect traffic as the group proceeds. Updates will be posted to keep residents informed.
