UPGRADING OF STORMWATER AND ASSOCIATED STREETS: Mbewu Street area, Thembalethu
The upgrade of residential streets and associated stormwater infrastructure servicing the Mbewu Street Area in Thembalethu: Zone 9 including; Mbewu, Liwani, Tabata Streets and a section of Nelson Mandela Boulevard, will have an impact on residents and road users for the period from 1 March 2022 to 30 August 2022.

DESCRIPTION:
The existing stormwater infrastructure servicing Thembalethu Zone 9 (Mbewu Street Area) including sections of Nelson Mandela Boulevard, Mbewu St, Liwani St and Tabata Street will be upgraded.
PROJECT PERIOD:
1 March 2022 to 30 August 2022
SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Municipal services may be disrupted during construction. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.
WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 18h00 Mondays to Fridays and 07h00 – 14h00 on Saturdays as may be needed from time to time.
TRAFFIC IMPACT:
Caution needs to be exercised by residents, road users and pedestrians throughout the duration of the construction period. Adherence to flag persons, temporary road signage and markings will be required.
ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. Any member of the public who enters the site will have to comply with the relevant requirements in terms of the Health and Safety Act and National State of Disaster: COVID-19 Regulations.

Thembalethu is currently experiencing an unexpected power outage. Our electricians are out to investigate the cause of the power outage. We will keep you updated on any developments.

UPDATE: WILDERNESS ESKOM POWER OUTAGE
George Municipality continues to temporarily supply power to Wilderness, since Eskom’s emergency power interruption yesterday morning. The power supply was supposed to be restored late yesterday, however, Eskom reported a broken conductor on its 66kV line supplying the substation and indicated that repairs can only be done today.
George Municipality will continue to temporarily supply power to Wilderness. Customers are urged to use electricity sparingly to enable George’s temporary supply to continue seamlessly.

NaTIS ON AND OFF: MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION AND DRIVING LICENCE TESTING CENTRE SERVICES SLOW
The George Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) situated in Hibernia Street (next to the train station) and the Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) in Pacaltsdorp are experiencing a slow service from the electronic National Administration Traffic Information System (NaTIS) as it has been on and off since this morning.
This is a country-wide technical issue experienced by NaTIS users and it is being attended to.

Urgent public notice: Waterflow will be affected to the whole of Lawaaikamp
Urgent public notice: Waterflow will be affected to the whole of Lawaaikamp after a contractor damaged a water pipe in the area. The water flow needs to be turned off to repair the damaged pipe. CONTROLLED FIRE BURNING IN DENNEOORD WATERWORKS AREA
The George Fire Department will do a controlled fire burn in the Denneoord Waterworks area today, between 11:00 and 14:00. Members of the public are requested not to call the fire department about the burning as it is pre-arranged event.

VACANCY FOR A COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER (CLO) AT THE THEMBALETHU SUBSTATION
The CLO will be responsible to communicate and coordinates activities between the contractor, stakeholders and the community.
Qualification’s requirements:
The candidate must be able to read and write local languages, must have a working cellular phone, must be unemployed, must not be a contractor, must be able to work under tough conditions, must have problem solving and conflict management and communication skills.
The above position will be appointed and remunerated by the Principal Contractor.
Conditions of Employment:
Remuneration: To be confirmed upon appointment
Normal hours of work: 07h00 – 17h00 from Monday to Friday (Unless informed otherwise by the Contractor)
