Control Burn – North of Dennoord


George Fire Rescue and Disaster Management services will carry out a Control Burn north of Denneoord Water Works today, 15 September 2025.

George Municipality apologizes for the short notice but weather conditions are ideal for this today.

Control burns serve to reduce the fuel loading (dead leaves, tree limbs, and other debris), in areas and are implemented to prevent wildfires spreading.

COGTA Honours George Municipality for Outstanding Humanitarian and Rescue Efforts

George Municipality was honoured to receive a Certificate of Recognition from the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) for its outstanding hands-on commitment and service in humanitarian efforts, search, rescue, and recovery operations during the “Victoria Street Building Collapse” in George, May 2024.

Temporary closure of Civil Engineering Services offices due to fumigation

George Municipality hereby advises the public that the Old Town Hall building will be closed for fumigation on Wednesday, 17 September 2025 from 15:00.

The Civil Engineering Services offices located in this building will therefore be closed during this time.

Normal operations will resume on Thursday, 18 September 2025 at 07:45.

The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their understanding.

George Municipality Supply Chain Management offices closed during lunchtime

 

Please note that the George Municipality Supply Chain Management Offices, Main Building, 71 York Street, George (entrance behind City Hall, access via Victoria Street) will be closed daily during lunch from 13:00 to 13:45, Monday to Friday. The SCM offices are now situated on the 5th floor.
Kindly take this into consideration when planning your visit.

LANDFILL SITE USERS

Please be informed that on Thursday, 11 September 2025, maintenance work will be taking place on the access road at the landfill site (main area where disposal takes place).

During this time, only one lane of the road will be open for vehicle access .

Our machinery will be working on one side of the road, while the other side will remain open for vehicles to drive in and out.

We kindly request all landfill site users to exercise patience and caution while using the access road during these works.

Your cooperation will ensure the safety of both the workers and all site users.
