Power Outage Ebb and Flow Area

Please note that a power outage is currently affecting the Ebb and Flow area. This is due to a faulty high voltage cable linked to a portion of wilderness that is impacting the electrical infrastructure.

Our technical teams are on-site and working to resolve the issue as a matter of urgency. An Estimated Time of Repair will be communicated as soon as more information becomes available.

Update 7: Gwaiing Road Construction Works, George

Issued by George Municipality on behalf of Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM), on 15 July 2025

The GRDM construction team has continued with the upgrading of the Gwaiing Road, nearing the completion of the placement of the final gravel layer on the right-hand side lane for the full length of the project.

Once this layer has cured and the final test results have been issued, the layer will then be sealed with a temporary bituminous seal.

Landfill Site Reopening

Following ongoing assessments and close monitoring of the landfill site and the recent fire incident, we can now confirm that the site is safe to reopen.

We urge all users to proceed with caution and to strictly adhere to the instructions provided by personnel on site.

Please note:
• A designated area at the top section has been reserved exclusively for soil disposal.
• All other waste types, including rubble and garden refuse, will be directed to the appropriate areas by our team.

George Municipality confirms that power has been fully restored to all areas affected by this morning’s emergency power trip.

Please note that due to scheduled water network testing, residents and businesses in Mid Town may experience low water pressure between 09:00 and 11:00 today.

George Municipality is aware of an unplanned water outage affecting Genesis Street in Rosedale.

Municipal teams are currently on site attending to the repair of the water pipe.

Estimated Time of Repair is 4–6 hours
A water tanker has been dispatched to Genesis Street to assist affected residents.

UPDATE: Pipe Burst – Denneoord

Municipal teams have completed repairs to the burst pipe in Denneoord.

Water supply is being restored, but residents are requested to allow time for the network to stabilise.

Please note that a pipe burst has occurred at the corner of Outeniqua and Loop Street in Denneoord. This has affected the water supply to parts of the Denneoord area.

George Municipality confirms that power has been restored to the affected portion of Thembalethu Zone 7 and 8.

Residents are reminded that illegal connections remain a serious risk and will continue to be addressed to ensure a stable and safe power supply

Emergency Power Outage – Lawaaikamp

Please note that a portion of July Marakeni Street and Potsolo Nyekeke Street in Lawaaikamp has been switched off to allow for emergency repairs.

The estimated time for restoration is 2 hours.
