Public Notice: Eye test machines down at Traffic Department in Pacaltsdorp

Please note that there’s a problem with the LEU systems (eye test machines) which are currently not operational at the Traffic Services Department(DLTC) in Pacaltsdorp.
 
Technicians are busy working on the problem and the public is asked to be patient.
 
No transactions for renewal, applications for learner’s licences or driving tests can be done.
 
The practical tests for driving licences are not affected.
We will inform the public of any developments. For more information contact the Traffic Department in Pacaltsdorp on 044 878 2400.

Blanco MVR closed today due to circumstances beyond our control

The Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) offices in Blanco are closed today due to circumstances out of our control and operational matters. The offices will re-open Monday, 31 July 2023 at 08h00. George Municipality’s MVR office in Hibernia Street is still fully operational for the rest of the day. The George Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused.

UPDATE: MOTORISTS ADVISED TO NOTE THE SAMWU MARCH AT NELSON MANDELA BOULEVARD

George Municipality yesterday communicated that the South African Municipal Workers Association (SAMWU) would take place today, Thursday 27 July. The march commenced in Thembalethu earlier this morning and is now proceeding via Nelson Mandela Boulevard into York Street.

Motorists are requested to note that the marchers are within the road and may cause disruption of the traffic flow. Traffic officials are regulating traffic, but motorists are requested to drive cautiously and use alternative routes to avoid delays.

Refuse collection delayed due to strike action

Due to limited capacity constraints because of the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) strike action, George Municipality requests residents of Kingswood and Rosedale not to put their refuse out today. Refuse will be collected in these areas tomorrow.

Refuse will be collected today in Pacaltsdorp, Dellville Park, Groeneweide Park and George South but there may be limited delays. The Municipality will attempt to complete the collection cycle in these areas today and will keep the public updated if anything changes.

George Municipality apologises for any inconvenience.

CAPITEC Bank has recently corrected/updated their Public Recipients, therefore all CAPITEC account holders need to update their beneficiary status for George Municipality.

Please follow these steps to update George Municipality as a beneficiary:

  1. Delete your current George Municipality beneficiary.
  2. Create a new George Municipality beneficiary:
    • search for George Municipality as the Institution name and click select,
    • continue filling in the required information until the transaction is complete.

Impact Based Warning: Yellow Level 1 – Damaging Waves

The Cape Town Weather Office has issued a Level 1 Impact Based Warning for Damaging Waves valid from 20h00 on 26 July to 17h00 on 27 July 2023.

Areas in the Garden Route district affected by damaging waves include Bitou, George, Hessequa, Knysna and Mossel Bay.
