UPDATE 34: WILDERNESS WATER OUTAGE

UPDATE 34: WILDERNESS WATER OUTAGE
Issued by George Municipality – 28 November 2025 at 11:30

George Municipality is aware of the ongoing water supply issues affecting Wilderness, Kleinkrantz, Hoekwil, and the surrounding areas.

Water supply to Kleinkrantz has been shut completely to allow water to flow into the Ebb and Flow Reservoir. Once this reservoir has adequate storage – the line will be reopened to allow the Kleinkrantz system to fill up and push air out.

Please note water to Kleinkrantz may be discoloured at first.

Note the Western side of Wilderness will have reduced water pressure or no water for a short time.

SEPERATE PIPEBURST 28 November 2025
There has been a 75mm pipeburst on a link to the main supply line this morning. This pipeburst has very little effect on the current water flow and pressure related issue and is being repaired.

Water tankers remain in place.

UPDATE 31: WILDERNESS WATER OUTAGE

George Municipality is aware of the ongoing water supply issues affecting Wilderness, Kleinkrantz, Hoekwil, and the surrounding areas. We thank everyone who alerted us this morning to which streets/areas remain without water.

The main supply line was reactivated yesterday afternoon, but the network continues not to fill as expected and water pressure remains too low. Water is flowing from Akela Reservoir to the Ebb and Flow Water Works, but is not reaching the Ebb and Flow reservoir which then gravity feeds to other reservoirs.

Teams have worked through last night and today to systematically move through the system, remove airlocks, and scour sections of the pipeline to check for blockages or any other causes of reduced pressure.

A water tanker will continue to roam through Kleinkrantz, the 35 000 litre water tanker is stationed at Kleinkrantz Resort and another tanker is stationed at Waves Garage, Wilderness East.

Water Safety Tips for the Festive Season

As we enjoy the festive season, please keep these essential water safety tips in mind to protect yourself and your loved ones:
· Never swim alone and avoid swimming in the sea, dams, or rivers at night.
· Do not swim under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants.
· Always supervise children near water. Ensure they cannot access pools, ponds, water features, baths, buckets of water, or open toilets—young children can drown in as little as 4 cm of water.
· Secure your swimming pool with a pool net or an SABS-approved fence to prevent accidental falls.
· Swim only in designated areas at the beach where lifeguards are present and avoid swimming too far out.
· Remember, swimming in the sea is very different from swimming in a pool or dam, even for experienced swimmers.
· Only dive into water if you can see what’s below the surface, and always test the depth, first.
