What is the Municipal Court?
* Municipal Courts are a division of the judiciary dedicated to the adjudication of local matters.
* Municipal Courts have exclusive jurisdiction to hear by-law and traffic-related violations sanctioned by the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 and National Land Transport Act 5 of 2009.
* Municipal Courts do not have jurisdiction over offences such as reckless-and-negligent driving, driving under the influence, or common law offences consequent to traffic violations such as culpable homicide.

Which fines may be adjudicated by the Municipal Court?
Traffic fines
* A Section 56 notice that is given to you by a traffic officer, usually for a moving violation. It has a court date on it.
* A Section 341 notice that is sent to a motorist by post for violations caught on traffic camera or for traffic tickets issued in the absence of the motorists (typically non-moving violations, including parking violations). It does not have a court date on it but is a first notice before summons. The Traffic Department will issue a second notice before issuing the summons.

By-law fines
* A Section 56 notice that is given to you by a law enforcement officer, usually for a community safety and/or community services violation. It has a court date on it.

The Upgrading of Meul Pump Station Portion 2 in Parkdene, from July 2024 to June 2025. The estimated construction duration is 12 months.

PROJECT:
UPGRADING OF MEUL PUMPSTATION – PHASE 2, PORTION2: MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL WORKS

DESCRIPTION:
The construction work includes mechanical, electrical, and control & instrumentation works, as well as related civil and structural works in the pump station.
PROJECT PERIOD: July 2024 to June 2025.

SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Operational interruptions can be expected during the construction works of the pump station and the pipelines. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions and the effects thereof will be issued via social media.

WORKING HOURS:
07h00 to 17h00 Mondays to Fridays. Work may also take place on Saturdays from 07h00 to 14h00.

IMPACT:
The intended construction works will take place inside the sewage pump station site. The work area will be fully closed to the public throughout the construction period.

ACCESS TO SITE:
Access to the site will be strictly controlled. No member of the public will be allowed access to the construction area, in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The George Municipality apologises for any inconvenience and appeals to the public to be patient and exercise caution throughout the construction period.

An unexpected power outage affected portions of zone 8 and 9 in Thembalethu. Electricians have located the fault and repairs will continue until 17h00.

UPDATE: UNEXPECTED WATER OUTAGE IN PARKDENE

The water supply in Parkdene has been restored, and the pipes are currently filling up. Earlier today, we reported a water supply interruption on Rotary and Hercules Streets. We appreciate the residents’ patience during this time.

Water supply has been interrupted again on Rotary and Hercules Streets in Parkdene. The earlier fault was repaired, however, another coupling failed nearby. The technicians have returned to start with repairs. The estimated time for repair is approximately two hours.
