UPDATE: Unexpected Water Outage in Wilderness

A burst in the main water pipe on Waterside Road near the Wilderness Water Treatment Works has caused an unexpected water outage. Municipal teams are on-site working to repair the pipe.

While alternative water has been redirected to supply residents, some parts of the affected area are still experiencing outages. A water tanker has been stationed at Wilderness Spar to temporarily provide drinkable water to residents.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Registration Deadline Extended for Spaza Shops, House Shops, and Other Food Premises

The deadline for registering Spaza Shops, House Shops, and other Food Premises has been extended to 28 February 2025.

The George Municipality urges all operators within the George Municipal precinct to complete their registration before the new deadline.

The George Municipality informs residents that refuse collection scheduled for today, 07 January 2024, will be delayed due to the breakdown of three compactors and other operational challenges.

Affected areas include Lawaaikamp and the CBD.

URGENT PUBLIC NOTICE – Water Conservation for Wilderness, Hoekwil and Touwsranten areas

Due to pipe bursts in the past 24 hours in Wilderness, Hoekwil, and Touwsranten, along with increased demand due to the hot weather, reservoir levels have dropped significantly.

The Water Treatment Works (WTW) is operating at maximum capacity to replenish these reservoirs. In the meantime, residents are urged to conserve water and use it sparingly.

Public Notice: Noll library closed for stocktake – 14 – 17 January 2025

Please take note, Noll Library will be closed from 14 – 17 January 2025 due to asset verification planning that needs to be done by the Provincial Library Service.

Unfortunately, no checking in or checking out of any library material may be done on these dates as it will compromise the outcome of the stocktake.

In terms of Section 14 of Regulations PK.689/1980 a full asset verification should be done in all libraries affiliated with the Provincial Library Service, Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.

The library will reopen for the public again on Saturday, 18 January 2025.

Fireworks Prohibited in George Municipality – A Festive Season Safety Reminder 

With the festive season upon us, George Municipality reminds everyone that the setting off and possession of fireworks, firecrackers, flares, and paper lanterns are strictly prohibited due to high fire risks.

Law enforcement will be conducting inspections and enforcing penalties for non-compliance.
