George Municipality informs all road users that the Traffic Department is currently upgrading its traffic cameras, replacing them with new, advanced static and mobile units.
The primary goal is to promote safer roads, as speeding is a major contributor to traffic accidents. Studies have shown that speed cameras significantly reduce both the number of accidents and the severity of injuries.
The Municipality is committed to a zero-tolerance approach to speeding and lawlessness on the roads.

The team from George Municipality is currently on site addressing an unexpected water outage caused by a burst pipe at 5 Arbour Road in Glen Barrie.
The estimated time for repair is 4-5 hours.
A standpipe is located on the corner of Arbour and Erica Road to ensure temporary water supply to residents.

The upgrading of Eden Pumpstation Phase 2 will have an impact on residents and road users during the construction, from May 2024 to November 2025. The estimated construction duration is 18 months.
DESCRIPTION:
Site clearance, diversion of existing pipes, demolition of existing inlet structure and stairs, removal of existing fence and gates. Upgrade of electrical equipment inside the existing pump station including MCC, power reticulation, interior and exterior lighting, standby generator, SCADA control system, level sensors etc.
PROJECT PERIOD:
May 2024 to November 2025.
SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Interruption in roadways (Dikkop street) can be expected during the construction of the pipelines. Advance notification of planned temporary disruptions will be sent out via social media.
WORKING HOURS:
Working hours will be from 07h00 to 17h00 Mondays to Fridays. Work may also take place on Saturdays from 07H00 to 14H00.
IMPACT:
The intended construction will take place in the adjacent road reserves at the Eden sewage pump station and inside the sewage pump station site itself. The public needs to take note of the intended works since excavations will be done on existing roads, where the existing rising main will be replaced, and a sewer main pipeline will be realigned. The pump station itself will be fully rebuilt and temporary installations will be provided while this work is underway. The work area will be fully closed to the public. The pump station work area will be fully closed to the public throughout the construction period.
