George Executive Mayor Leon Van Wyk has today, 14 December 2022 confirmed that following the Public Participation period which closed on Monday 12 December, the stricter water restrictions and emergency tariffs as approved in Council on 24^th November 2022, will be implemented. All comments received will be responded to and the public is thanked for their input and continued co-operation in reducing consumption of our potable (drinking) water.

A day of prayer for rain is due to be hosted on Friday 16^th December at the Garden Route Dam from 11h00. We encourage residents to participate.

Applicable to George and surrounds, excluding Uniondale and Haarlem.

The immediate measures to be adhered to are as follows:
1. Households limited to 15 kilolitres per month.
2. Other users, businesses and entertainment industries must reduce consumption by 15% of average use of previous six months. This includes commercial car washes and other businesses dependent on municipal water.

3. Industries must reduce consumption by 10% of average use of previous six months.
4. Gardens may only be watered with water cans or buckets, any time of day.
5. Irrigation/watering of ALL sportfields using municipal water is prohibited.
6. Washing of vehicles with a garden hose using municipal water is prohibited. Buckets are allowed.
7. Cleaning of any outside surface areas using a water hose (municipal water) is prohibited.
8. Filling up of swimming pools with municipal water is prohibited.
9. Where own water from a borehole, water tank etc is used, “OWN WATER” signage must be displayed.
10. Emergency tariffs will be implemented as per 2A of the 2022/23 tariff list.
11. Flow reducing devices shall be installed where limits are exceeded.
12. Contraventions are liable to a fine or six month’s imprisonment.

Die onmiddellike maatreëls is soos volg:

1. Huishoudings word tot 15 kiloliter per maand beperk.
2. Ander verbruikers, besighede en vermaaklikheidsplekke moet verbruik met 15% sny, gebaseer op die gemiddelde verbruik oor die voorafgaande ses maande. Dit sluit kommersiële karwasbesighede en ander besighede in wat van munisipale water afhanklik is.

4. Tuine mag slegs met ‘n gieter of emmer natgegooi word, enige tyd van die dag.
5. Die natmaak van ALLE sportvelde met munisipale water word verbied.
6. Was van voertuie met ‘n tuinslang met munisipale water word verbied. Emmers word toegelaat.
7. Die skoonmaak van enige buite-oppervlak met ‘n waterslang (munisipale water) is verbode.
8. Die opvul van swembaddens met munisipale water is verbode.
9. Waar eie water uit ‘n boorgat, watertenk ens gebruik word, moet ‘n “EIE WATER”-kennisgewing duidelik sigbaar wees.
10. Noodtariewe sal volgens 2A van die 2022/23-tarieflys geïmplementeer word.
11. Vloeiverminderingstoestelle sal  geïnstalleer word waar limiete oorskry word
12. Oortredings is strafbaar met ‘n boete of ses maande gevangenisstraf.

• Drivers of other vehicles should always be alert and be aware that every bus stop is a possible stopping place for buses.
• Be on the look-out for pedestrians crossing the street in the vicinity of the bus.
• Please wait patiently behind the bus if traffic is busy
• Always keep a safe following distance and expect the bus to stop at the next bus stop.
• GO GEORGE bus drivers are required to give enough warning by using indicators or hazard lights when they plan to stop.

Update on the major pipeburst in the George Industrial area. The only area affected at this stage is the Industrial area and teams are working on the repairs. Update Public Notice: Our Civils teams on the ground have found a major water leak and is busy isolating the problem so that water can stabilise. Please report any water leaks to 044 801 6300. Water trucks are stationed or will be at the different areas by 17h00 in the different areas.

Public Notice: Telkom faulty lines also have an effect on MVR office, however all the other Traffic Services in Pacaltsdorp and the Vehicle Testing Station is open for business. If the clients at MVR cannot be assisted today, they will be assisted first thing tomorrow morning. Some other departments in the region have also laid complaints with the Department of Transport early today. The service provider is attending to the situation. TELKOM TELEPHONE LINES ARE FAULTY

Telkom telephone lines are faulty. The George Municipality can confirm that it is experiencing technical difficulties and the fault appears to be the Telkom side. In some departments, such as the Fire Department, calls can be received, but cannot make external calls. On the other side, the Civils department cannot make or receive calls. The service provider is attending to the situation. We will keep you informed of any developments that may arise.
