UPDATE: LIBRARIES ARE STILL UNABLE TO ISSUE BOOKS AND CARDS DUE TO AN ONGOING SYSTEM FAILURE

The Library and Information Management System (SLIMS) has been unavailable since 15 November 2022 due to a system failure. As a result, libraries in the George Municipal area are having problems with the issue and return of books. The issue of cards, bus tours, interlibrary loans, as well as the purchasing and distribution of new books are all services that are affected.

All libraries in George, however, remain open to the public as access to information is a basic human right. All internet and WI-FI facilities and in-house use of libraries remain open and available to the public.

SLIMS is the computerised database operating system for public libraries. The system is owned, hosted, and maintained by SITA. SITA gave the assurance that this matter is receiving the highest priority and attention. We will keep the public updated and informed of the progress.

This is beyond the control of the George Municipality, and we request the public be patient until the matter is resolved.
