PUBLIC NOTICE: FREE 10-POINT HOLIDAY CHECK FOR YOUR CAR!

The George Municipal Vehicle Testing Station (VTS) is again offering a FREE 10-Point Check for your vehicle from 10 to 13 January 2023 (08h30 -15h30). Bring your vehicle to the VTS situated at Hibernia Street, George on the dates listed above and please note that the first come, first served rule will apply.

The 10 Point inspection includes:
• Identification of vehicle
• Lights
• Equipment and Body structure
• Braking Systems
• Wheels and Tyres
• Suspension and undercarriage
• Steering
• Oil leaks
• Exhaust System
• Transmission

The full inspection will take approximately 10 minutes and you will be free to go with a clean bill of health – or know that something needs to be repaired before you leave for that long drive.

Safety is our priority – make use of the opportunity to ensure you and your family travel safely this festive season.

SAFETY TIPS
Check that vehicle is roadworthy before you start your journey
Carry the necessary equipment and tools to assist you on the road in case of a breakdown
Have enough rest before you start your journey and take a rest every 2 hours
Adhere to all road signs and rules of the road
Maintain a safe following distance
Adhere to and stay within the speed limits
Follow instructions that are given by Law enforcement or Traffic Officials
No overloading of passengers because it affects the braking system of the vehicle
Have the necessary contact numbers in case of emergency
Be patient towards other road users

The latest results for Herolds Bay indicate that the E-Coli levels are now within an acceptable range. Herolds Bay beach is now open to the public for swimming and maintains its Blue Flag status. Gwaing River Mouth beach results remain non-compliant with unacceptably high E-Coli levels. The Gwaing River Mouth beach remains temporarily closed until further notice. We continue to take daily water samples.

Unplanned outage in Denneoord. A portion of Impala & St Paul Streets are without power. The feeder electrical cable was damaged. The electrical department arranging repairs.

The Herolds Bay beach is closed to the public for swimming, until further notice, due to E-Coli levels exceeding acceptable norms. In the interests of public health and safety, the public are urged not to swim until the levels are within acceptable norms. Water samples continue to be taken daily.

Loadshedding will then be suspended until 05:00 on Monday, 2 January whereafter Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented until further notice. – Eskom

PUBLIC NOTICE: Gwaing River Mouth Beach and River open for swimming, 30 December 2022 @ 09h15

The George Municipality is pleased to announce that the river and river mouth area at Gwaing are open for swimming following a temporary closure due to high Ecoli levels.

The Civil Engineering Services (CES) this morning, 30 December 2022, confirmed that the latest water test results showed that the Ecoli levels were within the acceptable limit.

This means the beach is safe for public use for swimming. The CES continues to take daily water samples to monitor the water quality.

George Municipality Main building is closed to the public due to a pipe burst – cashiers open

Urgent Public Notice: The public is hereby advised that the George Municipality Main building is closed to the public until Monday, 2 January 2023 (Public Holiday) and re-opening, 3 January 2023 due to a pipe burst in the building which has caused considerable damage. Cashiers will remain open today and tomorrow, 29 and 30 December 2022. The cashier hall is open from 08h00 until 15h30. Cleaning has started and staff is working as quickly as possible to clear wet corridors and ceilings that have caved in. Lifts are out of order at this stage.
