Power Outage: Themablethu, Asazani, Silvertown, Ramaphosa, and parts of Ballots View & Ballots Heights

A Contractor working for George Municipality is currently busy exposing existing services in the vicinity of the intersection of Ngcakani Road with Mbafala Street, to do repairs to a sewer main pipeline that collapsed under Ngcakani Road.
A deep excavation to get to the pipeline is planned for Thursday, 15 February 2024 and the intention is to replace the pipeline in half road widths, to ensure that traffic flow won’t get affected too much. Due to the complex nature of the work, it’s anticipated to be completed by Friday, 23 February 2024.
We’re also aware of the rain forecast for the next two days, which might have a negative impact on the planned work but we hope to still do the work. Should the weather not permit us to perform the work, we’ll start on Monday, 19 February 2024.
We request the patience and cooperation of both motorists and pedestrians during the period of work and ask that they be vigilant around the deep excavation and construction machinery and adhere to guidance signage.

There is currently an unplanned power outage affecting the Borcherds area. The outage was caused by vandalism to the medium voltage network cable and transformer.
Technicians are currently on-site working to repair the damage.
The estimated time for the repairs to be completed is today, @18h00.

Consumers are reminded to PLEASE use electricity sparingly after power returns. Please do not switch high-usage equipment on immediately after Load shedding.
Consumers are urged to turn off high-usage equipment and where possible to not switch on appliances such as stoves and kettles for at least 30 minutes after load shedding is scheduled to return. This will reduce the risk of overload tripping on the network.
Please do not phone the after-hours number or the Electrotechnical Department to report that you have no power immediately after load shedding is scheduled to be lifted. Please be aware of the rotational switching on i.e. areas are switched on one by one and not all at the same time to avoid overloading the system. Please wait at least 30 minutes before reporting no power. The Electrotechnical Directorate will be aware of a possible substation trip that needs to be sorted out.
Receive Eskom loadshedding notifications by downloading the free EskomSePush app from Google Play Store at https://sepush.co.za/
George Municipality is aware of high voltage faults and large areas of George are currently without power.
Further updates will be provided by the Electrotechnical Directorate via the municipal social media channels.
We kindly request the public to exercise patience and ONLY contact the After Hours numbers for Emergencies and other issues not related to the current power outage.
