National shutdown threat and GO GEORGE services
Thursday 9 June 2022

Due to rumours of wide-spread service shutdown tomorrow, 10 June, passengers seem to be uncertain whether GO GEORGE services will be operational. We have not received any notice of staff planning to strike and at this stage we are planning to operate as usual.
Police nationally are on high alert and closely monitoring the situation. Passengers will be notified if any change in normal operations becomes necessary.

NATIS SYSTEM DOWN AT DLTC AND MVR

Please be advised that the NATIS System is currently down at the Motor Vehicle Registration (next to the train station) and the Vehicle Testing Station as well as the Driving Licence Testing Centre in Pacaltsdorp.
No transactions can be be done at the MVR, DLTC and the George testing station currently. It is a national problem and technicians are working on the problem. We thank the public for their patience in this regard.

Tuesday, 07 June 2022: While no loadshedding is currently anticipated, Eskom cautions the public
that due to the continued shortage of generation capacity, the power system will be very constrained
for this evening. Should there be any significant breakdowns, loadshedding may be required at short
notice, most likely during the evening peak of 17:00 – 22:00.

Please be advised that the NATIS System and LEU (eye testing machines) are operational again at the Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) in Pacaltsdorp. All licence renewals and eye testing services are going ahead.

PLEASE NOTE PEOPLE ARE CURRENTLY QUEUING FOR SERVICES.

Due to the current threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, hard copies can unfortunately

LANDFILL SITE FIRE UPDATE: No active flames on the premises anymore but there is still smoke.

George Municipality is still using an excavator to smother any possible smouldering patches and this causes more smoke. Grey water is being used to cool down the area.

Dumping of waste is still allowed at the landfill site and the site is fully open. The Municipality is allowing all vehicles on the landfill.

UPDATE 2: POWER OUTAGE WILDERNESS

The repairs are complete, however, the Vegetation team will also be attending to trees that are in close proximity to the line. The ETR will therefore no longer be 2 hours, but will be at 14:00 today.

Update on power outages. Electricians are still working on lines to Remskoen Lane, 10 farms and 1 Informal Settlement as well as the Airport line which affects 9 farms/clients. Vegetation over large areas need to be cut back. This and bad weather have been causing delays in the switch on of these areas. We apologise for the inconvenience caused which is out of our control. Update on power outages: Electricians on sites estimating new time of repair for Taaibos Lane and Hoekwil area another 2 hours from now. Airport Lane will be addressed after midnight tonight. 7 Passes was just restored. George Municipality apologizes for the inconvenience caused due to circumstances out of our control.
